Insight Global, on behalf of a well-renowned healthcare organization, is seeking a certified General Surgery Medical Coder to join their tight-knit team of 8 coders. In this role, you will be responsible for professional fee coding from scratch for various surgeries, including thoracic, oncology, bariatric, breast, neurology, and generalized procedures. Our surgeries are typically straightforward, and any cases with excessive complications are promptly transferred to a sub-specialty coder. You'll operate within the central work queue held in Epic, ensuring accurate and efficient coding. We expect a productivity rate of 250 codes per week.
Responsibilities:
* Perform professional fee coding for surgeries, adhering to industry standards and guidelines.
* Code surgeries related to thoracic, oncology, bariatric, breast, neurology, and other general procedures.
* Collaborate with a team of 8 coders to maintain accuracy and consistency.
* Transfer complex cases to sub-specialty coders as needed.
* Operate within the central work queue in Epic.

* AAPC CPC certification (Certified Professional Coder) is mandatory.
* AHIMA CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) may substitute for AAPC CPC.
* Minimum of 3 years of coding experience, specifically in general surgery.
* High school diploma or GED.
* Experience in spine and brain surgery coding.
* Proficiency in bariatrics coding.
* Possession of a second credential from AAPC (such as CPMA, CGSC, etc.).
