Job Description

A client of Insight Global is looking for several Cable Technicians to sit in Arlington, VA supporting a Network Infrastructure modernization project. These individuals will be responsible for installation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber as well as the installation, patching and documentation of new network hardware (servers/routers) and all associated elements in various government buildings. They must follow government and commercial best practice procedures, standards required for installation of cable racks, wiring of the racks and testing required during installation. The night shift individuals will be responsible for installing the new cable and new network hardware in various rooms (roughly 3-4 rooms a night). They will also have to troubleshoot the equipment should something go wrong or wasn't staged correctly. All rooms are classified and requires use of X-09 combination lock for entry, memorizing of two (2) combinations at a time may be required.

Required Skills & Experience

- Active TSSCI Clearance

- Comfortable working 10-hour night shifts Monday-Thursday (8pm -- 6am)

- Associates degree and 3 -- 5 years of relevant telecommunication experience (No degree and 5 years of experience)

- Familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards

- Knowledgeable about 568-B Color code, 25 pair Color Code, and Fiber 12 strand Color Code

- Hands on experience dressing, terminating, and testing cables and components

- Hands on experience creating test result documentation

- Hands on experience removing patching and deinstalling legacy network hardware (switches / routers)

- Hands on experience installing / racking and patching new network hardware (switches / routers)

- Ability to identify, track, and remove abandoned cable

- Ability to trace a cable and determine where / if there is an issue with the pathway

Ability to memorize at least two (2) six-digit combinations to access classified spaces

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience using network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and Fiber Power Meters

- Ability to document network by labeling and routing equipment

- Demonstrated ability to work independently if required

Demonstrated ability to develop and assist in implementation of processes improvements
