Job Description
A customer of Insight Global is looking to hire a Principal Engineer – Seal Technology. This individual will lead the end-to-end development of advanced sealing solutions, driving innovation from concept through production using Lean product development principles. The role requires strong technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to make data-driven engineering decisions while managing complex product requirements and stakeholder expectations. This person will operate primarily in an office setting with occasional lab/shop exposure, while guiding teams through structured problem-solving, prototyping, and continuous improvement efforts.
Day to Day:
- Develop and present concept papers outlining value propositions, design metrics, and stakeholder alignment
- Design innovative sealing solutions incorporating both metallic and non-metallic materials
- Define product requirements, specifications, and attributes based on technology roadmaps
- Lead full lifecycle product development from concept through testing and qualification
- Manage and facilitate value-stream teams using Obeya and Lean methodologies
- Drive experimentation, prototyping, and rapid iteration to accelerate learning cycles
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, testing, and business stakeholders
- Analyze technical and commercial issues, making data-driven decisions to resolve challenges quickly

Required Skills & Experience
- 8–10+ years experience in mechanical engineering with deep expertise in seal design (metallic + non-metallic)
- 8+ years experience with sealing materials, calculations, and engineering methods
- Strong knowledge of API 6A and/or API 17D standards
- Proven experience leading full product development lifecycle (design through testing and qualification)
- Experience with Lean product development and value stream leadership (Obeya, cadence meetings)
- Advanced technical decision-making experience (TCE - Approver or equivalent engineering authority)
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills in engineering environments
