Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineer III to support power distribution and transmission design projects for utility and energy clients in the Houston region. This mid‑senior engineering role is ideal for someone who can independently execute technical design tasks, support project engineering, and deliver high‑quality construction packages with minimal oversight.
You will collaborate with engineering staff, designers, project managers, and field personnel to develop construction‑ready deliverables for overhead and underground distribution systems, transmission line modifications, and system upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and refine distribution and transmission engineering design packages, including plan & profile drawings, equipment specifications, and construction details
Conduct field investigations, site walks, and data collection to support engineering accuracy
Apply utility standards, NESC requirements, and client specifications to all engineering work
Prepare material lists, staking sheets, BOMs, and as‑built documentation
Support engineering analysis, including load checks, clearance reviews, and structural assessments
Coordinate with project managers, designers, and utility representatives to resolve engineering issues
Review drawings and documents for quality control, accuracy, and compliance
Use power distribution software such as Katapult, Distribution Design Studio (DDS), and similar tools to produce engineering deliverables
Assist with permitting, easement reviews, and right‑of‑way coordination
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, technologists, or designers as needed

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or a related engineering field
5–10 years of experience in power distribution, electrical design, or transmission engineering
Experience with power distribution design software (Katapult, DDS, or similar platforms)
Strong understanding of overhead and underground distribution systems
Experience with transmission line engineering, structure modifications, or routing
Familiarity with utility standards
Ability to perform field work and interpret field data
Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Ability to work a Monday–Thursday 7–5 schedule consistently
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience supporting or coordinating with an Engineer of Record
Knowledge of NESC, utility construction methods, and system protection fundamentals
Experience with structure loading tools (PLS‑CADD or similar) is a plus
Ability to mentor junior staff or review their work for accuracy
