Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Structured Cabling Design Engineer / Field Liaison for a leading solutions provider. This role blends technical design responsibility with hands-on field collaboration, serving as the critical bridge between engineering, staging, and build teams. The engineer will design structured cabling and data center solutions while actively supporting rack & stack, cabling, and connectivity execution in the field. The ideal candidate has strong design fundamentals, practical data center experience, and the communication skills to ensure designs are executed accurately and efficiently from concept through deployment.

Day-to-Day:
Perform structured cabling and data center infrastructure design
Act as a field liaison between the design team and staging/config/build teams
Translate design intent into executable build plans for field teams
Support rack & stack, cabling, and connectivity discussions during deployment
Validate designs against real-world field conditions and constraints
Provide hands-on technical guidance during staging, configuration, and installation
Partner with Sales and key suppliers to ensure solutions meet customer expectations
Evaluate project requirements and identify technical resource needs
Escalate complex or high-impact issues to Senior Specialists or Solution Architects
Support training initiatives and knowledge sharing across teams
Assist Sales in identifying and positioning Supply Chain Solutions

Required Skills & Experience

Associate’s Degree or equivalent hands-on technical experience
5+ years of experience in structured cabling and data center infrastructure
BICSI RCDD certification (required)
Experience in both design and field-facing support roles
Strong understanding of data center concepts and infrastructure
Hands-on knowledge of:
Rack & Stack
Structured cabling infrastructure (fiber & copper)
Networking fundamentals (interfaces, connectivity, physical layer)
Experience producing design drawings, elevations, and layouts
Ability to act as a technical bridge between design and build teams
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
Strong communication skills and customer-centric mindset
Ability to travel locally and regionally (up to ~10%)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or engineering discipline
Data center design certifications (CDCDP, DCDC, or similar)
Experience supporting staging, configuration, and build teams
Exposure to AI, high-density, or clustered data center environments
Experience working directly with installation partners or contractors
Background supporting sales as a technical advisor
Experience with global or enterprise-scale deployments
Familiarity with supply chain solutions and material logistics
