Job Description
An Insight Global client in the oil & gas services industry is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the daily design, development, testing, and commissioning of automation and controls systems used in production enhancement and stimulation equipment. In this role, the engineer will spend their time developing and modifying PLC and Siemens-based control logic, supporting field commissioning activities, troubleshooting control system issues, and validating system performance against engineering and operational requirements.
Day to day, this role works closely with cross-functional engineering and operations teams to design automation system architectures, configure and maintain industrial communication networks, and verify the interaction between software, hardware, and field equipment. The engineer will participate in hardware and software verification and validation, support lab and field testing, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. This position is based in Houston, requires travel to domestic sites (Houston and Oklahoma) and occasional international locations.
Targeted Pay Range: $60-$80/hr

Required Skills & Experience
Experience developing and commissioning industrial automation and control systems
Strong hands-on experience with Siemens control systems (TIA Portal required)
Proven ability to develop code for PLC, NI, or related control platforms
Experience designing and implementing automation system networks
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols: Modbus, Modbus TCP, CAN bus, Profinet
Ability to support hardware and software verification and validation
Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and cause & effect diagrams
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Ability to travel domestically and internationally; valid passport/visa required
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with National Instruments (cRIO), LabVIEW, or C++, especially for legacy systems
Background in oil & gas, power generation, or large-scale industrial processes
Experience with HMI development and advanced/PLC-based control systems
Familiarity with functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61131-3, SIL)
Experience working with sensors, actuators, pumps, and VFDs
Programming experience in C#, C++, Python, MATLAB, or Java
