Job Description
A premier Energy Client in the Houston, Texas area is seeking a Senior Databricks Architect. On a day‑to‑day basis, the Databricks Architect will solve complex data engineering, pipeline, and performance challenges within Databricks environments. The role involves writing, reviewing, and maintaining production‑grade Databricks and PySpark code while diagnosing Spark execution behavior and identifying data processing inefficiencies.
The architect will prototype solutions when existing pipelines fail, stall, or do not meet performance expectations, and will guide engineering teams in scaling those prototypes into robust, production‑ready solutions. They will advise teams on the most effective architectural approaches, such as choosing between Delta Live Tables and Structured Streaming based on use case requirements. In addition, the Databricks Architect will partner closely with other technical leads to drive continuous improvements across the data platform and ensure solutions align with performance, scalability, and business needs. This position is required to sit onsite 3 days a week in Houston (either downtown or off i10 and Dairy Ashford). Depending on years of experience and technical ability, this position pays between $80-$100/hr.

Required Skills & Experience
Senior-level Data Architect experience (10+ years exp)
Deep, hands-on Databricks expertise (enterprise level)
Strong Python / PySpark development skills
Strong understanding of:
- Spark execution and optimization
- Data pipelines and lifecycle management
Experience with:
- Structured Streaming and/or DLT
- Medallion architecture
- Unity Catalog
Ability to build working prototypes to solve complex problem
Strong SQL skills
Background in trading or financial services
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with AI features in Databricks (e.g., Agentic workflows)
Exposure to streaming technologies (Kafka, event-driven architectures)
