Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Accountant to support accounting, investment operations, and regulatory compliance for a multi‑state life insurance organization offering long-term insurance and annuity products. This role is well-suited for a seasoned accounting professional who values stability, consistency, and ownership of core financial processes. The ideal candidate has deep accounting experience within life insurance or financial services and has supported senior finance leadership in a smaller, closely held organization.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting investment-backed liabilities, and ensuring compliance with state-level insurance regulations.

Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Investment Operations
Investment & Loan Accounting

Manage accounting for investment assets supporting life insurance and annuity obligations
Record interest payments, create new loans, and process loan payoffs using The Mortgage Office (TMO)
Enter and maintain loan and investment transactions in QuickBooks
Update accrued interest daily to ensure accurate income recognition
Reconcile TMO activity to QuickBooks on a regular basis
Maintain complete and accurate loan documentation, assignments, and supporting files

Manage Mortgage‑Backed Securities (MBS) activity, including:
Adding new securities
Uploading and reviewing month‑end files
Running month‑end investment processes
Recording mid‑month MBS transactions in QuickBooks

Cash Management & Reconciliations

Perform daily bank reconciliations for primary operating and investment accounts
Perform weekly reconciliations for additional financial institution and funding accounts
Prepare and process wire transfers related to loans and investments

Reserves & Tax Activity

Update reserves daily following revenue recognition and investment activity
Process quarterly tax advance payments and monthly interest withholding
Support statutory and operational reserve tracking tied to insurance liabilities

Close & External Reporting Support

Prepare quarter‑end schedules and supporting documentation
Coordinate with an external CPA firm and provide financial data for reviews and filings


2. Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

Maintain and manage reporting calendars to ensure compliance with state insurance requirements
Prepare and file premium tax reports across multiple states
Complete additional regulatory and financial reports as required
Update compliance schedules to reflect new state licenses, market expansions, or regulatory changes


3. Process Documentation & Controls

Maintain and update process documentation (ScreenSteps)
Develop new process documentation as systems, products, or regulations evolve
Review existing workflows and recommend improvements to strengthen accuracy and controls


4. Regulatory Monitoring & Change Management

Track regulatory updates from state insurance departments
Translate regulatory changes into updated internal accounting and operational processes
Communicate regulatory impacts to internal stakeholders
Lead or support operational adjustments required to remain compliant across jurisdictions


5. Business & Finance Support

Provide general accounting and operational support to finance leadership as needed
Act as a reliable, steady accounting resource within a lean finance organization

Required Skills & Experience

- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in life insurance or annuities strongly preferred
- Strong investment accounting experience (loans, accrued interest, MBS, reconciliations)
- Experience with QuickBooks required; familiarity with TMO and investment systems is a plus
- Comfortable working independently and owning end‑to‑end accounting processes

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Background supporting a CFO or senior finance leader in a small to mid‑sized company
- CPA preferred
