We are searching for an elite SQL Server Database Administrator with deep expertise in performance tuning and query optimization for Azure SQL Database. This is not a general DBA role we need someone who thrives on diagnosing bottlenecks, re-engineering queries, and tuning every aspect of database performance until it runs at peak efficiency.
The ideal candidate has a proven record of turning slow, resource-heavy systems into fast, lean, and reliable engines using advanced indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, statistics tuning, and Azure-native monitoring and optimization tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Performance Tuning & Optimization --
· Analyze execution plans, waits, and indexes to identify performance bottlenecks.
· Optimize queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for maximum throughput.
· Implement database partitioning, statistics tuning, and parameter sniffing mitigation strategies.
· Fine-tune Azure SQL resource utilization (DTUs/vCores, IOPS, memory usage).
· Identify and resolve deadlocks, blocking, and excessive I/O or CPU consumption.
Monitoring & Diagnostics --
· Use Azure Monitor, Query Store, Extended Events, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) to track performance metrics and detect anomalies.
· Build proactive monitoring dashboards and alerts.
· Conduct periodic performance health checks and optimization cycles.
Database Architecture & Maintenance --
· Advise on schema design improvements for scalability and performance.
· Implement best practices for indexing, partitioning, and table design.
· Manage database security, backups, and disaster recovery processes in Azure SQL.
Collaborate with developers to ensure performant SQL code from the start.

· 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA with at least 3 years in Azure SQL Database.
· Expert-level skills in T-SQL, query tuning, and execution plan analysis.
· Mastery of DMVs, Query Store, Extended Events, and Azure Monitor.
· Proven track record of reducing query execution times and resource consumption significantly.
· In-depth understanding of indexes, statistics, locking/blocking, and waits.
Experience with scaling strategies (elastic pools, hyperscale, sharding, partitioning).
· Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
· Experience with high-transaction, mission-critical systems.
· Familiarity with SQL Server 2022 features and their Azure equivalents.
Knowledge of security, encryption, and compliance requirements in regulated industries.
