Job Description

The Senior Accountant will handle advanced accounting tasks with minimal supervision, including financial reporting, audit preparation, and compliance. Provides leadership support in the absence of the Accounting Manager and mentors junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare financial statements, budgets, journal entries, and audit reports.
Reconcile accounts and analyze financial data and trends.
Maintain records for payroll, leases, grants, and capital projects.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB (including GASB 87 & 96), and internal policies.
Support ERP upgrades and recommend process improvements.
Assist with pension/OPEB reporting and serve as a liaison across departments.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field (Masters preferred).
Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience.
Knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with GASB standards.
Proficient in financial analysis, reporting, and reconciliations.
Skilled in using accounting systems, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Access).
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Experience using a larger ERP system (Oracle, NetSuite, SAP)
Experience using an EAM software.
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple priorities.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

CPA eligibility preferred.
Masters Degree in Accounting or related field.
Knowledge of PowerBI.
