Job Description

The Propulsion Manager is a hybrid role that blends deep technical ownership with people and project leadership. While titled as a manager, this individual is fundamentally the Responsible Engineer (RE) for a propulsion system—owning the design, development, testing, and delivery of complex hardware such as engines or valve systems. This is a hands-on leadership role where the manager is expected to be present with the hardware, lead by example, and drive execution from concept to test.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Ownership
Serve as the technical product owner for a propulsion system (e.g., Vira engine, valve systems).
Lead the full lifecycle of hardware: design, development, test, and iteration.
Translate long-term technical roadmaps into actionable daily priorities.
Provide hands-on technical support and guidance to the team.
Team Leadership
Manage a team of 4–6 engineers, fostering accountability and independence.
Guide the team through complex technical challenges and problem-solving.
Coordinate across internal teams and external vendors to ensure alignment.
Support scheduling, communication, and team development.
Execution & Delivery
Own the delivery of a working propulsion system on schedule.
Be physically present where the hardware is—this is not a remote role.
Travel as needed to support integration, testing, or vendor coordination.

Strong technical foundation in propulsion systems, including turbopumps, combustion systems, or valves.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage cross-functional execution.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with evolving requirements.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience developing rocket engines or propulsion subsystems.
Background in liquid propulsion systems or cryogenic fluids.
Familiarity with test operations, data analysis, and failure investigation.
Experience coordinating with vendors and managing hardware delivery timelines.
Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Siemens NX) and engineering documentation.
