Insight Global is looking for a Controls Engineer to join an energy & industrial client in Houston, TX. The role involves developing new and customizing existing PLC programs for discrete manufacturing processes, motion control, and material handling control systems to meet customer-specific requirements. The individual must handle a dynamic workload with minimal supervision and work primarily with Allen Bradleys Logix control platforms, occasionally using Siemens Simatic S7. They are expected to specify and select adequate control hardware, including controllers, I/O (both local and remote), and communication hardware. Proficiency in programming and executing programs in PLC controllers using Rockwell Automations Studio 5000 software package is required, with experience in Siemenss TIA Portal package being a plus. The role also involves interfacing PLC controllers and programs with AC and DC drives through industrial networks, mainly Ethernet/IP and Profinet, with drive manufacturers including Allen Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Yaskawa, and Control Techniques. The individual will work closely with the Data/MES Engineering department to collaborate on developing HMI and MES programs to integrate with the control systems developed. They will develop customer-oriented documentation, including programming diagrams, network diagrams, I/O lists, single-line diagrams, electrical wiring schematics, and user manuals. Performing in-house systems tests is part of the role, as is traveling to customer sites for installation, debugging, and commissioning of complete automation systems, which occurs 20% or less of the year. Additionally, the individual will coordinate with the Project Manager to strategize milestone completion and communicate with clients to determine their needs, requirements, and expectations.
