Job Description

A utilities client in the Houston area is looking for a Data Analyst to join their team. This team provides the support for operations in distribution from an application standpoint. They work closely with developers on the IT side of the house. This team is responsible for analyzing and reporting on data pertaining to customer outage history on the distribution side. This team analyzes outages, look for trends, look for problems, answer questions from different groups (regulatory, legal, etc.), all pertaining to outages data. Different groups across the company need the analysis / information from this specific group because they know how to find the data. That is why this position is open, they need a Data Analys to help sort through this data, pull the data and interpret it. Thats why it is also crucial for this individual to learn and understand the clients business processes. As a team, they will be analyzing the data and looking for trends. This team is NOT the analyst group, but again, they provide a lot of reports, so they need a strong analyst to help pull numbers and build dashboards to give these reports. Majority of what they will be doing are ad hoc requests. Operations group in general works on different projects and they will use this specific group to get any information they need to help support whatever initiative is going on at the time. It all revolves around outages and restoration efficiencies. This individual will leverage their knowledge of systems, business processes, regulatory requirements, and mathematical/statistical expertise to develop new datasets, provide oversight to processes and systems affecting data quality, and perform exploratory analysis to discover new insights. They will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's data and analytics strategy by working closely with the business to execute on data-driven initiatives. You will be responsible for developing data solutions, performing data analysis, and growing data awareness and literacy within the company

Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and requirements, and translate them into actionable insights and data-driven solutions.
Perform data analysis tasks, including data cleaning, data transformation, and data visualization, to uncover meaningful patterns and trends in large datasets.
Partner with data engineering to develop and maintain data pipelines and workflows, ensuring efficient and accurate data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
Assist in Applying statistical analysis techniques and machine learning algorithms to identify correlations, predict outcomes, and optimize business processes.
Assist in the development and maintenance of data models, data dictionaries, and data documentation to ensure data integrity and consistency.
Conduct exploratory data analysis to discover insights and provide recommendations for improving business performance and decision-making.
Monitor data quality and proactively identify and resolve data discrepancies or anomalies.
Participate in cross-functional teams to support data-related projects, providing expertise and guidance on data analysis, data management, and data visualization.

Required Skills & Experience

-1-3 years experience as a Data Analyst
-Experience using Google Big Query running reports, need to know how to get the data
-1+ years of experience using tableaux creating dashboards
-1+ years of experience using power BI creating dashboards (any outage analysis)
-Proficient in excel pivot tables, v lookups, formatting, charting, pies, etc.
-Experience with SQL for data querying and manipulation.
-Experience with ETL processes, data warehousing, and database management systems (they need to know where al the info is hoesd and how to get to it, the source of the data).
-Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

-Bachelors degree in information technology / data Analytics / Business
-Electrical background
-Utilities background
-SAP some of the data comes from SAP.
Experience with programming languages such as Python and R for data analysis and scripting.
Understanding of data modeling concepts and experience with data modeling tools.
