Job Description
A healthcare employer in Houston, TX is seeking an Outpatient ED Medical Coder to join their growing team. This position is remote but candidates must live in the following states: TX, OK, LA, TN, FL, South Carolina, GA and NE. This person will be responsible for coding emergency department charts. Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process is required. In this role you will be coding an average of 9 charts per hour.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of hospital and ambulatory coding experience
Experience coding in a level 1 or level 2 trauma facility/academic teaching facility
Experience coding emergency department visits
Either a RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, COC, or CPC Coding Certification(s) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC)
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and/or CPT
Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process
Proficient knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical terminology
High School Diploma or GED
Must reside in one of the following states: TX, OK, LA, TN, FL, South Carolina, GA and NE
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with coding in Epic
Associates or bachelor's degree in health information management (HIM) or any Revenue Cycle related field
