Job Description
Day-to-day:
An employer in the San Antonio, TX area is looking for a Corporate Accounting Manager. This person will be responsible for ensuring all financial data is accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP. They will serve as a member of the accounting team to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate project efforts to meet operational, financial, and organizational goals. This person will need to be as self-starter and team player as they will lead a team of 1-3 other accountants.
Key responsibilities include:
-Ensures the suitability and effectiveness of internal controls.
-Recommends and executes appropriate improvements relating to procedures and policies.
-Researches and makes recommendations regarding appropriate -Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) treatment.
-Directs and/or prepares reports, as assigned by the Assistant Controller.
-Provides analyses, reports, and support to senior levels and external users relating to financial matters and operations.
-Ensures optimum performance of the function. Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
-Ensures procedures and controls are in place to optimize the efficiency of the department. Writes and up-dates new policies and procedures, as necessary.
-Maintains responsibility for assigned balance sheet and profit & loss (P&L) analysis and variance explanations.
-Maintains responsibility for assigned account transactions -- providing analysis and financial statement classification for accuracy.
-Develops and reports on key performance indicators for Corporate and Segment Accounting.
-Develops and presents to management matters requiring their attention.
-Keeps management informed of the Corporate Accounting performance.
-Prepares and maintains journals, ledgers, closings, status reports, and other periodic reports in accordance with company policy and procedures.
-Oversees journal entries for accruals and any necessary entries. Reviews the monthly general ledger for accuracy and makes corrections.
-Prepares assigned account reconciliations and reviews/approves account reconciliations assigned to direct report.
-Completes assigned monthly, quarterly and annual tasks related to the accounting close cycle.
-Mentors and leads a group of direct and in-direct reports. Monitors performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling. Reviews direct reports and approves performance appraisals initiated by direct reports.
-Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills & Experience
Must Haves:
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting
-5 years of full cycle financial accounting experience (to include GAAP) in a public accounting setting
With duties including financial closes, P&L analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
-CPA, or ability to obtain within 1 year
-Proficient in Microsoft Suite, primarily excel and PowerPoint creating pivot tables/ V-look ups
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Plusses:
-Financial or operational auditing experience highly preferred
Big 4 accounting experience
-ERP systems experience
(Ex: NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, SYSPRO, JD Edwards)
-Technical accounting experience
-Restaurant accounting experience
