Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a HVAC Controls Supervisor local to Knoxville, TN to oversee the day-to-day activities of a field technician team, including route planning, team performance, and overall execution of building automation and HVAC controls work. This individual will lead and develop Electrical Installers and Controls Technicians, ensuring proper training, coaching, and consistent delivery across projects.
The HVAC Controls Supervisor will serve as the primary technical resource for controls-related issues, supporting HVAC systems such as air handlers, chillers, and hot water systems while providing daily troubleshooting guidance to field teams. They will partner closely with Project Managers, Sales, and the Install Manager to coordinate technician scheduling, support sales opportunities, and ensure successful project execution.
This role is responsible for driving team performance, analyzing operations, and recommending process improvements to ensure profitability, safety, and client satisfaction. The individual will also assist with estimating, review bids for accuracy, and ensure contractual obligations and service expectations are consistently met.
The HVAC Controls Supervisor will oversee workforce planning, support hiring and retention, and deliver performance reviews and development plans for direct reports. They will lead operational and financial reviews, ensure safety compliance, and maintain alignment with overall business strategy and branch goals.
This position supports multiple locations including Knoxville and Chattanooga, requires local travel within a 90-mile radius, and may include occasional weekend work. A company vehicle is provided, and relocation assistance may be available based on candidate needs.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of progressive experience in HVAC services and/or building automation systems (BAS/controls)
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role, directly managing and developing field technicians.
• Strong technical background in HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, heating/cooling systems) and how they operate within a building
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting controls systems and supporting field teams with technical issues
• Experience overseeing day-to-day field operations, including scheduling, workforce planning, and performance management
• Ability to drive team performance tied to profitability, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with PMs, sales, and internal leadership
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with Metasys or similar BAS platforms
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field
• HVAC or controls experience with increasing leadership responsibility
• Experience reviewing estimates, bids, and supporting project financials
• Exposure to Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies (Green Belt or similar)
• Experience supporting multi-site operations or multiple branch locations
• Background in both mechanical and electrical systems within commercial buildings
