Job Description

Support Arizona DCS’s SSI initiatives for youth in foster care by developing and filing Social Security claims, coordinating records collection, corresponding with caseworkers, and tracking cases through SSA/DDS. This role requires high attention to detail, strong written communication, and comfort working across multiple systems simultaneously.
• Develop and file SSI claims for youth in foster care
• Collect, organize, and track medical, mental health, educational (IEPs), and work records
• Identify correct SSA-required forms; obtain signatures (youth, parents, case planners)
• Reach out to child welfare social workers via email; request missing information
• Submit medical evidence to DDS upon request
• Track statuses with SSA and DDS; maintain timely follow-ups
• Coordinate and confirm Consultative Exam (CE) appointments; help reschedule as needed
• Provide monthly reporting/statistics to supervisors
• Maintain thorough case documentation
Manage 10–20% phone communication (calls routed through the computer), with email as the primary channel

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience working as a case worker, case manager, youth and foster care, government or nonprofit entity or agency
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Understanding of (or ability to learn) SSA disability criteria for children/young adults
• Sharepoint experience or similar document management systems
• Associate degree or 2+ years of relevant experience
• Strong professional writing and verbal communication
• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and critical thinking
• Strong interpersonal skills, especially with public sector agencies
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Organized record-keeping to track monthly goals
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Comfortable context-switching (bouncing between tasks/systems and regaining focus)
• Mission-driven, empathetic to youth/foster care population
• Comfortable with high-volume email and structured follow-ups
• Able to prioritize and triage multiple cases simultaneously
• Ability to operate two laptops simultaneously and move information between systems
Reliable internet; adequate workspace for dual-device productivity

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Medical or Human Services background
• Knowledge of SSI, RSDI, and other federal benefits for foster youth
• Prior experience with foster care, SSA claims, or Disability Determination Services (DDS)
Social work exposure or case management in public sector environments
