Job Description

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and modernize CPPA’s SQL Server and Azure data estate. This role combines deep SQL expertise with cloud automation and governance, ensuring high performance, security, and operational efficiency across production and development workloads. The ideal candidate will help advance data modernization, automation, and cost optimization initiatives within Azure.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases (Azure VM, and Azure SQL).
- Implement automated monitoring, alerting, and maintenance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and PowerShell.
- Design and manage data pipelines in Azure Fabric environments.
- Support database security and compliance through RBAC, managed identities, encryption, and auditing.
- Implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies, including AlwaysOn and geo-replication.
- Develop database-as-code and deployment automation using Terraform, or Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Collaborate with developers and analysts to improve database design, indexing, and query performance.
- Deep understanding of Redgate’s Flyway software.

Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ years’ experience managing SQL Server and Azure SQL environments in enterprise settings.
- Proficiency in T-SQL, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL on Azure VMs.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and database automation.
- Knowledge of Azure security and compliance (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST).
- Experience managing data movement via PowerApps, Logic Apps, and Fabric pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work cross-functionally with application and infrastructure teams.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with Defender for SQL, Purview, and Sentinel integration.
- Knowledge of Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Infrastructure as Code for database provisioning.
- Familiarity with Azure Policy, cost management, and FinOps.
- Certifications: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSE, or related Microsoft certifications.
