Insight Global is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer III to join a manufacturer of industrial equipment in the electric utility industry, specializing in a wide range of equipment, including overhead and underground pullers, tensioners, reel trailers, and stringing blocks.
In this role, the engineer will play a vital role in the ideation, design, and development of industrial machinery products and components from concept to production. This role is also responsible for maintenance and improvements of existing products.
This individual will report to the Director of Engineering and work closely with other engineers, designers, and other functions across the business, including product management, operations, and marketing, as well as outside vendors. The individual will participate in a team environment for large and complex projects and may receive direction from senior engineers.
To be successful in this role, it is imperative for this engineer to be highly motivated to grow the department and take on more responsibility with time. We are also looking for an engineer who has prior experience designing or working with various types of blocks, such as engine blocks, pulley blocks, or structural blocks used in construction and machinery.
This is a full-time, permanent position with compeitive compensation and comprehension benefits.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Generate concepts for innovation based on direction from product managers, market research, field sales team input, and other voice of customer methodologies
- Develop models for design concepts, perform calculations, and use FEA and simulation software to verify design integrity and material selections
- Complete detailed drawings for estimating product cost and building prototypes
- Lead assembly and testing of prototypes to validate designs
- Utilize DFSS tools to determine and prioritize customer needs
- Develop project plan that identifies all necessary engineering tasks, durations, resources, and costs to complete product design from ideation through production, then track against that plan throughout the project
- Work closely with manufacturing and quality engineers during concept development to ensure the design is manufacturable, easy to assemble, and profitable
- Work closely with production to assist with pilot and production build
- Ensure successful transition from engineering to manufacturing for production
- Provide sustaining support as required on existing products

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering; MBA is a plus
- Proven experience in product development within heavy manufacturing, with a history of successful product launches
- Prior engineering experience designing or working with various types of blocks, such as engine blocks, pulley blocks, or structural blocks used in construction and machinery
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time and within budget
- In-depth knowledge of heavy manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards
- Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Prior blocks engineering experience heavily preferred
