Job Description

An employer in the Greater Nashville area is hiring a remote Computer Operator to join their team. This resource is required to work 2nd shift which is Monday-Friday 3:15-11:15pm CT. The responsibilities are below:

Ensures that all scheduled jobs are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Ensures the timely and efficient processing of production requests through the computer systems.

Ensures that off-site tape storage is maintained at the proper level and that backup media is properly labeled and rotated. Done by a third party service now. Just maintaining a spreadsheet to know where tapes are located.

Run the operations in the absence of direct supervision for the shift.

Consults with superiors and reports problems and deviations affecting workload and scheduling.

Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.

Assists in establishing and maintaining schedules and sets priorities for the efficient utilization of the computer and related equipment.

Monitors all jobs within the Production and Test environment.

Diagnoses malfunctions of computer system and related equipment and makes adjustments where necessary.

Responsible for performing complex procedures in the preparation of input files for processing and distributes the output.

Strives to learn the job functions of the positions immediate superior as well as the peer level positions with whom the individual interacts. It is the responsibility of the individual to be prepared for temporary re-assignment and/or promotion due to extended illness, personal emergency or business necessity.

Uses CA7 and CA11 for jobs.

Utilize a knowledge base for all mainframe and server job troubleshooting. The knowledge base documents are continuously being updated and must be relied on for appropriate actions.

Escalate problems to the Production Support team if unable to solve on own.

Required Skills & Experience

Exposure to data center but will train

Detail oriented and able to multi-task

Familiar with MS Office suite (word, excel)

Able to work 2nd shift Monday-Friday, and weekend days as needed

High school diploma or GED

Clear communication

Eager to learn

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

6-12 months of data center experience

Experience with ticketing like ServiceNow, Remedy

Ability to read a flow chart

Understands how mainframes and servers work conceptually

CA 7 dispatch knowledge

Knowledge of a scheduling system (they use autossist)
