Job Description
Insight Global's utility client is looking for a Substation Designer to sit in either a 4-hour drive of Newark, DE or (if more tenured) remotely in the southeast, northeast, or mid-west. They will be responsible for designing high voltage substations for various utility clients in the NE. Most of the work will be protection and controls drawings -- relay upgrades, edits to relays, edits to existing design packets, etc., but they will also be involved in some physical designs as well -- control house layouts, general arrangements, grounding calculations, etc. They will be responsible for helping engineers with all engineering packets including final design submissions and initial design documents. Overall, they'll design three-line diagrams, single-line diagrams, equipment wiring diagrams, and AC & DC elementaries. Most of their design will be done in AutoCAD, but they could also use MicroStation. Projects they could work on include substation upgrades, substation retrofits, and equipment upgrades for high-voltage equipment/substations.
Required Skills & Experience
* 6+ years of substation design experience -- equipment layouts, control house layouts, grounding analysis/design, P&C design, relay design, etc.
* A.A.S degree in either engineering, design, or similar.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
* Experience working for a large utility company.
* Experience using MicroStation.
* Experience designing for high voltage/transmission level voltage substations.
