Job Description
A Client/Employer in Memphis, TN is looking for a Government Affairs Manager. This Manager will serve as the subject-matter expert on government affairs, and a content expert for assigned issue area for this company.
Manage the tracking and analysis of state and federal bills, budgets, and policy proposals to determine the impact on the scope of work and advise and respond accordingly
Develop strategies to build and enhance a broad range of relationships with policymakers and their staff, thought leaders, and decision-makers
Manage development of proposals for sponsored legislation and create internal processes for identifying bills and other proposals, and structure incentive plans for development
Advocate for policy positions in written and verbal forms, including drafting and writing position letters, providing testimony, and developing presentations
Collaborate across teams to advance our advocacy agenda, such as by developing communications strategies and tools that make complex policy information accessible and actionable for a broad array of stakeholders
Enhance this multi-billion dollar company's reputation and brand with state policymakers and the public by representing the policies and positions externally in meetings, coalitions, with the media, on social media, and directly with legislators and policymakers
Serve as liaison and manager of partnership with government relations contractors
Support new and existing philanthropic and funder relationships and contribute to managing grants, proposals, and reports as needed
Stay current and knowledgeable on organizational research and reports, as well as the changing policy landscape in Kentucky and Tennessee
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
5+ years relevant experience in government affairs, policymaking, and developing new legislation in the state of Tennessee
Substantial experience developing proposals for sponsored legislation and tracking/monitoring bills in the state of Kentucky and/or Tennessee
Knowledge of tax structure and incentive policy related to development.
Strong influential written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the realm of government affairs, with the ability to influence and motivate policymakers and their staffs to understand specific positions and act.
Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to connect with a range of diverse stakeholders, with the ability to connect with a range of diverse stakeholders and overcome obstacles to find common ground.
