Job Description

We are seeking a Structural (Bridge) Project Manager / Senior Structural Engineer to help grow our Carolinas Bridge Practice, with a primary focus on South Carolina DOT (SCDOT) projects. This role offers the opportunity to build and lead a South Carolina–based bridge group within an established, award‑winning ENR Top 50 transportation firm.
The ideal candidate is a client-facing bridge leader with strong SC bridge design and seismic analysis experience, capable of balancing hands‑on technical leadership, project management, QC/stamping, and business development support.

Day‑to‑Day Work
• Bridge design, rehabilitation, seismic analysis, and load rating
• QC review and stamping of bridge documents
• Coordination with roadway, hydraulics, and construction teams
• Project examples:
○ I‑95 Lake Marion – Bridge design
○ I‑77 – Bridge design & rehabilitation

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
• Serve as a leader within the Carolinas Bridge Practice
• Act as Bridge Project Manager, Task Lead, and/or Engineer of Record
• Perform and oversee:
○ Highway and rail bridge analysis, modeling, and design
○ South Carolina–specific seismic analysis
○ Load rating, rehabilitation, and structural evaluations
• Manage bridge rehabilitation/replacement and ancillary structures
• Sign and seal bridge and structural plans in South Carolina
Quality Control
• Provide QC oversight for ~10–12 active structures projects
• Ensure compliance with SCDOT standards, constructability, and technical excellence
• Support inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation efforts as needed
Group Growth & Mentorship
• Build and lead a South Carolina structures team (initially ~2–3 staff)
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff
• Support recruiting and development of a NC/SC bridge pipeline
Business Development & Client Engagement
• Support Design‑Build and Alternative Delivery pursuits
• Lead or support structures scopes on $50M–$500M+ SCDOT pursuits
• Contribute to technical proposals, fee development, and delivery strategies
• Maintain strong client relationships and participate in ACEC and industry events

Ideal Candidate Profile
• Licensed SC PE with stamped bridge projects
• Strong SCDOT credibility and client presence
• Hands‑on experience in bridge design, seismic analysis, and load rating
• Comfortable acting as Technical Lead, Project Manager, and QC authority
• Business‑minded self‑starter interested in winning work, building a team, and growing into a Structures Group Leader

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• 7+ years of progressive structural engineering experience (bridge-focused)
• Extensive bridge experience, including:
○ Seismic analysis of bridges (required)
○ Load rating and structural evaluations
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in South Carolina
• Experience stamping bridge projects in South Carolina
• Alternative Delivery / Design‑Build experience
• Strong project management skills (budgets, schedules, teams)
Proficiency in MicroStation

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• NCDOT, GDOT, and/or rail bridge experience
• ACEC member
• OpenBridge experience
• NBIS certification
• Bridge inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation expertise
• Exposure to pre‑construction or operations leadership
Cross‑discipline understanding (roadway, hydraulics, utilities, traffic)
