Job Description
We are seeking a contract Platform Automation Developer for a six‑month engagement, working remotely across Canada, to accelerate the delivery of an automation bolt‑on layer for an existing enterprise platform. This execution‑focused role centers on building production‑ready automation from defined user stories using Python within an established Ruby on Rails environment. The primary objective is to convert ad‑hoc and operational scripts into structured, maintainable, and self‑documenting automation that can be transitioned to internal operations and engineering teams. Core architecture, user stories, and the underlying Rails platform are already in place, making this a delivery‑oriented role rather than a design‑led one. The developer will implement logging, error handling, and operational guardrails while closely collaborating with platform owners and operations staff to validate real‑world behavior. The engagement concludes with clear runbooks, handover documentation, and knowledge‑transfer sessions to ensure long‑term internal ownership.

Required Skills & Experience
• Extensive experience using Python for automation and scripting
• Practical experience extending or working within an existing Ruby on Rails codebase
• Proven ability to write self-documenting, maintainable code intended for long-term operational ownership
• Experience working from predefined user stories as opposed to creating new designs
• Experience with Git and contributing to shared repositories with clean commit practices
• Comfort operating in enterprise production environments with change control and operational constraints
• Knowledge of core networking concepts (IP, DNS, routing, firewalls) sufficient to support platform automation
• Strong understanding of API integrations, RESTful services, and data exchange patterns
- Ability to independently research and apply unfamiliar networking concepts as required
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience transitioning solutions from contractors to internal teams
• Familiarity with automation in infrastructure or platform domains (network, monitoring, identity, CI/CD, etc.)
• Experience writing operational documentation and runbooks for non-developers
• Exposure to job schedulers, background processing, or task orchestration frameworks
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, and secrets management in automation contexts
