Job Description
We are seeking a Mainframe Developer to support and enhance enterprise claims adjudication systems within a high-volume, transaction-heavy environment. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining and evolving core mainframe applications that drive claims intake, pricing, and payment accuracy.
This is an individual contributor role focused on development, maintenance, and production support within a fully mainframe-based ecosystem. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders and offshore partners to ensure system stability, regulatory compliance, and seamless claims processing.
Key Responsibilities
Mainframe Claims Development
• Design, develop, and maintain COBOL-based applications supporting claims adjudication and financial processing
• Build and enhance programs supporting claim intake, edits, pricing, provider payments, and adjustments
• Develop and support CICS online transactions and high-volume batch processing workflows
• Implement business logic aligned with claims policy, benefits, and reimbursement rules
• Perform impact analysis for system changes, including regulatory updates and benefit modifications
Production Support & System Stability
• Perform abend analysis, root cause analysis (RCA), and defect remediation
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues impacting claims processing and payment accuracy
• Support release cycles, validations, and production deployments
• Partner with Application Support and Operations teams to meet SLA, SOX, and audit requirements
• Participate in on-call rotations as needed
Data & Performance Optimization
• Optimize DB2 SQL queries supporting claims processing and reporting
• Tune batch jobs and JCL to improve performance, reduce cycle time, and maintain batch windows
• Ensure data integrity across claims transactions and downstream systems
Integration & Modernization
• Support integration with upstream/downstream systems including vendor feeds and pricing engines
• Assist with ongoing modernization initiatives (service enablement, API exposure, hybrid integrations)
• Collaborate with architects and SMEs to enhance system capabilities without compromising claims accuracy
Collaboration & Delivery
• Partner with product owners, business stakeholders, QA, and release teams
• Work closely with 1 FTE and offshore Infosys team members
• Participate in agile ceremonies and deliver work within Scrum frameworks
• Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and engineering best practices

Required Skills & Experience
• 6+ years of hands-on mainframe development experience
• Strong expertise in:
o COBOL
o CICS
o JCL
o DB2 – backend database supporting mainframe
• Experience with enterprise batch scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7)
• Proven experience supporting healthcare, claims adjudication or high-volume financial transaction systems
• Experience with mainframe tools such as Endevor for code migration or a similar tool that support a mainframe environment
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
• Ability to work independently on complex enhancements and production issues
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience within healthcare claims processing (commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid)
• Familiarity with:
o Claims edits and pricing logic
o Benefits determination and payment adjustments
o Payment integrity or clinical edits systems
• Experience supporting regulatory or audit-driven system updates
• Background in large-scale enterprise claims environments
