Job Description
IG is seeking a highly technical Product Owner to support a legacy modernization initiative with a strong focus on Mainframe systems and reverse engineering. This role sits at the intersection of engineering teams and business stakeholders, with a heavy emphasis on translating complex legacy logic into actionable stories that enable forward engineering.
The Product Owner will partner closely with a Business Analyst and engineering teams to champion the reverse engineering of existing applications and ensure alignment, prioritization, and delivery readiness for agile sprints.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary Product Owner for a reverse engineering workstream, focused on legacy Mainframe applications
• Act as a connector between teams with differing urgency levels, keeping all parties aligned, focused, and moving forward
• Translate outputs from reverse engineering efforts into clear, well-defined user stories and backlog items
• Partner closely with a Business Analyst and reverse engineering team to refine requirements and technical flows
• Create, prioritize, and groom stories to ensure sprint readiness
• Analyze legacy logic and technical flows, including pseudo code, to understand current-state behavior
• Work hands-on with engineering teams to clarify requirements and technical intent
• Support roadmap execution where the modernization strategy is already defined
• Balance engagement across ~70% technical team collaboration / ~30% stakeholder interaction
• Document requirements, workflows, and decisions using Jira, Confluence, and Miro

Required Skills & Experience
• 7+ years of exp as technical product owner
• Able to work on refinements and backlogs to move project through deliverables
• Strong API – understands and can work processes around it
• Demonstrated analytical reasoning to interpret technical flows and business rules
• Experience working closely with engineering teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Jira
• Healthcare domain experience highly preferred
• Drives clarity and problem definition: Doesn’t just take requirements — pushes to define what problem we’re solving and why it matters now
• Thinks end-to-end and manages complexity well
• Looks beyond features to full system impact (upstream, downstream, dependencies)
• Strong at identifying and sequencing dependencies to keep teams unblocked
• Owns delivery outcomes, accountable for what happens in production — not just getting stories delivered
• Executes with high-quality backlog discipline
• Writes clear, actionable stories including edge cases and failure scenarios
• Leads cross-team alignment (not just coordination)
