Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a National Director of Metallurgy and Process to join a major Canadian engineering consulting firm. The successful candidate should be coming from a consulting background, ideally within mining engineering.

Responsibilities

* Direct the work of professional engineers and process specialists on projects of various sizes and durations.

* Develop metallurgical testwork programs, review testwork results and develop process design criteria.

* Develop and maintain commissioning and validation procedures.

* Review operating plant data / operational practices and recommend improvements.

* Prepare engineering budgets and execution strategies to support proposals.

* Audit process engineering work on various projects (heat and mass balances, equipment sizing, process circuit designs, process design criteria, etc.).

* Provide input to debottlenecking and troubleshooting studies.

* Participate in business development activities including to proposal preparation and Client relationship development.

* Foster a spirit of enthusiasm, technical innovation, client focus, team building and continual improvement.

* Lead the strategic planning and development through a deep understanding of the business environment, competitive pressures, customer requirements and market trends.

* Plan and control the work of the department by ensuring projects are sufficiently staffed per project schedules with personnel possessing the specific technical needs of projects.

* Maintain and develop the technical skill sets of the department as well as the skills within the technical speciality groups of the department. Ensure department personnel are qualified and have the required experience level to support the project needs of the business unit.

* Make decisions and recommendations on highly technical and complex issues based on recommendations and input from staff members.

* Promote staff participation in conferences and seminars by developing technical papers, serving on technical panels and presenting at conferences.

* Keep up-to-date with industry standards and technology. This also includes department engineering software updates and identification of new tools to improve department efficiencies and Client offerings.

* Establish a yearly training program that will assure that the discipline team is up-to date with the industry best practices

* Participate in the establishment of departmental budgets and control expenditures within those budgets.

* Develop, monitor and improve department work processes and tools. Establish innovative approaches to improve department efficiencies in carrying out engineering activities.

* Review project discipline performance on projects and in the event of unsatisfactory performance, propose an action plan to realign the results.

* Ensure that quality assurance procedures and programs are adhered to by all engineering personnel. Perform technical audits on projects in accordance with the established QA program and ensure the timely implementation of all identified corrective actions.

* Participate in the preparation and review of proposals, particularly engineering execution plans.

* Set strategic objectives and monitor the progress toward these objectives.

* Implement effective department communications with all stakeholders, holding department and project functional leads accountable to keep their project team members informed on significant issues affecting their engineering discipline.

* Adhere, support and promote Company Quality Management System, HSE requirements, policies and procedures.

* Establish and maintain a climate favorable to the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the project engineering work.

Required Skills & Experience

Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.

* P.Eng status in any Canadian province.

* 20+ years relevant experience including experience in leadership and supervisory roles.

* Experience working on metallurgical projects (mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, etc.) in extractive metallurgy for base and precious metals.

* Experience working on energy sector and heavy industrial sector projects in industries such as carbon capture, hydrogen, steel etc.

* Experience in plant operations and commissioning.

* Must possess broad experience in the execution of multi-discipline engineering work on large / complex projects across the complete EPC/EPCM lifecycle.

* Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the mining and energy sectors, be thoroughly familiar with typical business and contract models employed in the industry and hold a wide network of professional industry contacts.

* Demonstrate the implementation of innovative approaches to engineering execution in past roles.

* Knowledge of process safety methodologies.

* Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
