Job Description

The Manager, Facilities Engineering oversees a multidisciplinary team responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of all facility systems. The role provides strategic and technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, controls, and building automation systems, ensuring strong preventive maintenance and continuous improvement. A key focus is developing and sustaining comprehensive electrical engineering and safety programs that meet all regulatory requirements. The manager also leads long‑term capital planning, asset lifecycle analysis, and infrastructure investment prioritization while managing the facility capital budget. Through effective leadership and technical expertise, this role ensures that facilities and critical infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary facilities engineering team, including electrical, mechanical, project engineering, space planning, facility technicians, and power industrial fleet technicians, ensuring strong performance, engagement, and technical capability.
Provide strategic and technical leadership for all building infrastructure systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, controls, building automation systems (BAS), and architectural elements.
Develop, implement, and sustain comprehensive electrical programs, including electrical system design standards, documentation, preventive maintenance, and electrical safety programs that meet all regulatory and industry requirements.
Ensure full compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and internal safety policies, driving a culture of proactive risk mitigation, system reliability, and disciplined engineering practices.
Oversee the development, optimization, and management of building automation systems (BAS) to improve system performance, energy efficiency, operational visibility, and long‑term reliability.
Direct the execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime, extend asset life, and ensure safe, efficient facility operations.
Lead long‑term capital planning efforts, including facility condition assessments, asset lifecycle evaluations, and prioritization of infrastructure investments aligned with organizational goals.
Manage the facility’s infrastructure and services capital budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources, cost control, and timely execution of capital projects.
Oversee engineering and construction projects, ensuring proper scope development, technical accuracy, schedule adherence, budget compliance, and alignment with facility standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, sustainability, energy management, and the modernization of facility systems and processes.

Required Skills & Experience

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required, from an ABET‑accredited institution, preferred.
· Advanced degree (MS) in engineering, engineering management, or a related field or a Professional Engineer (PE) license in lieu of an advanced degree.

· Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities engineering, infrastructure management, or large‑scale commercial/industrial facility operations.

· Demonstrated experience leading facility and infrastructure projects, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, and lifecycle management.

· Broad‑based knowledge of all phases of commercial building design, construction, operations, and maintenance, including applicable building codes and industry standards.

· Strong background in mechanical systems and HVAC, including system design, operation, troubleshooting, energy conservation strategies, and integration with energy management systems.

· Deep understanding of electrical systems, including distribution, protection, preventive maintenance, electrical safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements.

· Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), controls architecture, system optimization, and integration with mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

· Familiarity with facility condition assessments, asset lifecycle analysis, and capital planning methodologies.

· Working knowledge of project management principles, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight.

· Ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering and technical workforce, fostering high performance and accountability.

· Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for evaluating complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, controls, and BAS issues and determining effective solutions.

· Skilled in developing and managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance.

· Ability to interpret and apply building codes, electrical safety standards, and environmental/occupational regulations.

· Strong financial acumen, including the ability to develop, manage, and optimize capital and operating budgets.

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to executives, engineers, technicians, and external partners.

· Demonstrated ability to make strategic decisions regarding infrastructure investments, risk mitigation, and long‑term facility planning.

· Proficiency with engineering software, CMMS systems, BAS platforms, and standard office applications.
