Position Summary
The Project Manager leads client-facing delivery of retail and supply chain operations management consulting engagements, providing project and people leadership across multiple concurrent projects throughout the U.S. and internationally. This role owns day-to-day execution against the agreed Statement of Work (SOW), including project governance, stakeholder management, and coordination with subject-matter experts to deliver measurable outcomes across retail operations, supply chain and fulfillment operations, workforce management, engineered labor standards, productivity improvement, and operational assessments.
The Project Manager is instrumental in ensuring high-quality client delivery and executive-ready presentations, supporting account management and client satisfaction, and identifying and pursuing future business development opportunities. This role develops trusted advisor relationships with clients and leads cross-functional initiatives spanning store operations, distribution centers, fulfillment, and transportation interfaces. Industrial engineering experience is valued as an enabling skillset, though not the primary focus of the role.
Job Responsibilities
Manage delivery across multiple concurrent projects and workstreams by owning integrated workplans, milestones, resourcing, and day-to-day execution, providing daily leadership to the delivery team.
Manage client engagements end-to-end (scope, schedule, budget, and quality), translating SOWs into team deliverables and running stakeholder management and governance (weekly status updates, steering committees) with executive-ready communications to deliver on time and within budget.
Lead operational assessments and current-state diagnostics across retail store operations, distribution center/warehouse operations, fulfillment, and transportation interfaces; synthesize findings into prioritized opportunities and practical improvement plans.
Drive productivity improvement initiatives across labor productivity, utilization, and performance management, with measurable impact tracking.
Design and deliver engineered labor/time standards (ELS/ETS), including study approach, standards development, documentation, and rollout, while leading Lean continuous improvement initiatives using root-cause tools (5 Whys, Pareto) to prioritize drivers and deliver sustainable performance gains.
Provide industrial engineering and operations expertise, including time and motion studies, work measurement, sampling approaches, volume-to-labor modeling, cost-benefit analysis, and process re-engineering to support evidence-based recommendations.
Develop labor planning, scheduling, and capacity models to optimize staffing and service levels across retail and supply chain environments.
Redesign operating models and business processes, developing standard work, performance routines, and sustainment mechanisms to embed operational improvements.
Lead or support labor management software engagements (including multi-site deployments), applying best practices to guide clients through implementation, adoption, and change management.
Continuously improve consulting methodologies and contribute to the advancement of retail and supply chain service offerings through internal initiatives, research, and solution development.
Facilitate cross-functional workshops (Operations, HR, IT, Finance) to align objectives, validate requirements, and drive key decisions.
Ensure all deliverables are “client-ready,” with a clear narrative, defensible analysis, and practical implementation steps.
Translate strategy and customer journey insights into operational requirements, executable roadmaps, and implementation plans aligned to client goals.
Support account management by identifying follow-on opportunities and developing proposals and presentations.
Coach and develop project team members by providing support, guidance, and feedback from both a project delivery and career development perspective.
Review and approve project finances, including staffing plans, travel coordination, and travel expenses; maintain accountability for budget performance.
Manage personal time effectively, report progress to project leadership, and remain productive in onsite, remote, and independent working environments.
Actively participate in trade shows, networking, recruiting efforts, and internal growth initiatives.
Travel extensively (typically 60–80%), sometimes independently, throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Working Conditions
Project Managers may be required to work in challenging, non-standard environments, including:
- Time of day: Evenings (5 PM–10 PM), overnight shifts (10 PM–6 AM)
- Day of week: Weekends (Saturday/Sunday)
- Physical demands: Continuous walking, standing for extended periods
- Environmental conditions: Client sites with variable or extreme temperatures, including above 70°, between 37°–50°, and below 32°

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
7+ years of experience in a consulting role applying Industrial Engineering principles and leading client engagements across multiple industries.
Demonstrated success managing fixed-scope, time-boxed projects and leading small to mid-sized delivery teams.
Experience across retail operations, supply chain, distribution, fulfillment, or warehouse environments preferred.
Familiarity with workforce management, labor planning, productivity programs, operational excellence, and/or labor management software implementations.
Strong executive communication and presentation skills (PowerPoint), analytical problem-solving skills (Excel), and stakeholder management abilities.
Ability to create and manage project budgets, including understanding of travel coordination and expense policies.
Knowledge of change management principles and ability to influence successful implementation of recommendations.
Mastery of core industrial engineering principles, including labor standards, MOST, and time studies.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to work independently.
