Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Structured Cabling Design Engineer for a top global solutions provider. This is a fully remote, design-only role focused on delivering high-quality structured cabling and data center infrastructure designs. The engineer will support sales teams across multiple business units by developing fiber and copper backbone designs, elevation drawings, and building layouts, while contributing to modern data center initiatives—including AI clustered systems. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, a consultative mindset, and the ability to collaborate across global teams to deliver scalable, customer-focused solutions.
Day-to-Day:
Serve as a trusted technical advisor supporting sales across CSS, EES, and UBS organizations
Deliver structured cabling and data center infrastructure designs for customer solutions
Create detailed elevation drawings, fiber/copper backbone designs, and building layouts
Support data center design initiatives, including AI and high-density environments
Partner closely with Sales and key suppliers to develop scalable, future-ready solutions
Educate sales teams on supported technologies to strengthen customer engagement
Evaluate project opportunities and determine technical resource requirements
Support sales requests across all regions, leveraging global specialists as needed
Escalate complex or strategic projects to Senior Specialists or Solution Architects
Participate in and support the Global Training Program
Assist Sales in identifying and positioning Supply Chain Solutions to drive profitability

Required Skills & Experience
Associate’s Degree or equivalent hands-on technical experience
5+ years of experience in structured cabling and data center infrastructure design
BICSI RCDD certification (required)
Experience in a pure design-focused role (no install/field execution)
Strong background in fiber and copper backbone design
Experience creating elevation drawings and building layout designs
Data center design experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
Ability to independently make sound technical recommendations
Strong customer-centric and consultative communication skills
Ability to travel up to 10%
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or engineering discipline
Data center design certifications (CDCDP, DCDC, or similar)
Experience designing AI clustered systems and high-density data centers
Prior experience acting as a technical advisor to sales organizations
Experience supporting global or multi-region projects
Familiarity with supply chain solutions and solution positioning
Experience supporting or delivering technical training programs
