Job Description

As the Manager of Data Engineering, you will lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers focused on cloud-native data products. You will serve as a technical leader and strategic partner, ensuring that data-driven features are seamlessly integrated into internal and external solutions. You will be responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of an expanding data platform that supports APIs, self-service reporting, and real-time data enrichment.
Core Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Manage a team of data engineers, overseeing career growth, goal setting, and performance management.
Technical Direction: Drive the architecture and design of a cloud-native data platform utilizing the Microsoft Azure stack (Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks).
Operational Excellence: Lead team progression through Agile delivery, DevOps maturity, and CI/CD process optimization.
Collaboration: Partner with IT leadership, Product owners, and business stakeholders to translate evolving requirements into scalable technical features.
Standards & Best Practices: Promote and enforce high standards for data modeling, pipeline development, and system interfaces (batch and real-time).
Financial Oversight: Manage basic departmental budgeting, including invoice processing and financial documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

Experience:
Minimum of 6 years in a Data Engineering role.
2+ years of experience in a leadership or management capacity.
3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Databricks, ADLS, Synapse, SQL DB).
Technical Expertise:
Expertise in SQL and relational database management.
Strong proficiency in Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
Deep understanding of real-time and batch data processing, transformation, and modeling.
Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub for code management and CI/CD.
Professional Skills:
Proven ability to multi-task and reprioritize in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to solve complex problems and interpret intricate data sets.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related data field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Advanced Experience: 8+ years of total data engineering experience; 5+ years specifically within the Azure ecosystem.
Architecture: 1–3 years of experience in data architecture activities (evaluation, design, and implementation).
Cloud Ecosystems: Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., CosmosDB) or experience with Snowflake.
Development & Tooling:
Proficiency in Python or DAX.
Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or IoT technologies.
Knowledge of PowerBI or Power Apps.
Legacy/Alternative Platforms: Experience with SSIS, Informatica, Teradata, or Oracle DB.
