Job Description
The Proofreader is responsible for ensuring that all materials reflect the highest level of quality, readability and alignment with brand tone and voice standards. The Proofreader ensures grammatical, legal and factual accuracy in all copy. This role is responsible for error-free quality, consistent and accurate materials. The Proofreader must exhibit proficient editing/proofreading skills, outstanding attention to detail, deadline sensitivity, autonomy and teamwork in completing assigned projects and tasks. In addition, a basic knowledge of scientific messaging is needed to ensure final materials are accurate, clear, consistent, and impactful.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Proof content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite work as needed to ensure perfect execution in all media and platforms
*Suggest changes, verify links, sources and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare the work for client presentation and publication
*Provide proofreading and editorial perspective to deliver copy that meets project specifications
*Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text
*Collaborate with project management team as needed for specific project objectives
* Ensure consistent voice and tone
* Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are met
* Validate copy meets legal guidelines
* Deliver completed and error-free copy
* Read and comment as needed to ensure:
o Accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and context
o Accuracy of references, web links/addresses, phone numbers and other data
o Compliance with brand guidelines
o Correct usage and presentation of company and brand trademarks and logos
o Consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.)
o Overall continuity, consistency, clarity and presentation
* Ensure all client, legal and compliance annotations are correctly interpreted and addressed
* Follow a style checklist to ensure consistency in trademarks, hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
* Provide proofreading signoff on projects at final release to ensure accuracy.
* Maintain strict adherence to deadlines
* Create and update proofreading best practices and consultation guides
* Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows
* Communicate clearly and promptly with manager and in-house agency staff
* Leverage research and data to inform execution

Required Skills & Experience
3+ years as a Proof Reader or Copy Editor
Experience working in the Life Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, BioTech Industry
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English or journalism
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat or equivalent
Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks
Understanding of editing applications in multichannel marketing applications
