Job Description
This Associate Scientist will have the following major responsibilities:
* Provide day-to-day operational and troubleshooting support of laboratory automation and automated assays to support Lead Evaluation and Compound Profiling
* Assist with hardware and software fault diagnosis and perform hands-on troubleshooting, repairs and calibrations for laboratory automation, computer systems, and stand-alone instruments
* Execute automation hardware, software service and development requests for staff, Contractors, and external vendors
* Partner with CBRE and Core Business Services team, to coordinate, facilitate instrument repairs in a timely manner
* Coordinate requests between biologists, engineers and information technology staff and ownership for programming, calibration, and troubleshooting offline equipment used for LE and CP activities
* Identifying and resolving system conflicts that resulted in the automation stall then recover active stalled automation runs
* Assist with transition of manual workflows onto automated assay systems and optimize existing automated processes and platforms to improve efficiency, throughput, robustness and quality
* Execute identified process optimization solutions to streamline end-to-end processes and identify and address bottlenecks
Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master's in Biological Sciences, Engineering field or Related field, is required
* Experience in a lab containing automated liquid handling and plate based automation equipment preferred
* Experience utilizing, calibrating, and troubleshooting, laboratory equipment, computer systems and stand-alone instruments is preferred
* Hardware/programming experience with liquid handlers (e.g. Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Agilent) and robotic integration / scheduling software (e.g. HighRes BioSolutions Cellario or Thermo Scientific Momentum) is preferred.
* Working knowledge of laboratory automation, experience developing and running assays and an understanding of automation process optimization is preferred
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with strong customer focus is preferred
* Must be highly organized, possess attention to detail, and exhibit critical problem-solving abilities in fast pace environment
* Experience working in diverse, multi-disciplined groups and demonstrated ability to work in a matrix and multi-site work environments, manage multiple priorities, and at times, be self-directed is preferred.
* Excellent written and communication skills is preferred
Required Skills & Experience
- BS or MS in an Engineering discipline or Biological Sciences with a desire to move into engineering
- 2+ years of experience in automation engineering, working with integrated systems (ex. Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Agilent, or Thermo Fisher
