Job Description
One of our clients located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard is looking to hire a Ship Construction and Technology Engineer to join their Construction Engineering team. This Individual will support hull structural design, field engineering, hull production outsourcing and shipyard development activities as required by the department workload. The individual will interface with planning, procurement, other engineering departments, design sub-contractors, and production personnel as required to complete their assigned activities. Responsibilities include:
-Ensure that all safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
-Review structural arrangements using the classification society rules and considering shipyards construction restraints.
-Check production design work package documentation, such as the engineering workshop drawing, plate and panel cutting information, sub-assembly drawings, and panel line milling and cutting information for release to production. This may include design sub-contractor oversight.
-Prepare purchase order specifications and engineering packages for outsourced hull structures.
-Coordinate domestic hull production subcontracting.
-Provide field engineering support as required to support production activities, blue mark inspections or responding to production questions developed throughout hull construction.
-Review Design Change Notice documentation.
-Act as a coordinator between yard machinery such as cutting tables, milling, bending machines, automated welding stations, panel lines OEMs and shipyards production team to address and resolve issues.
-Act as technical lead in matters related to dry dock operation and certification.
-Act as technical lead for large CAPEX projects and prepare related specifications.
-Review and assist production with existing and new technologies.
-Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
-Bachelor Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
-Minimum 5 years experience in shipbuilding or steel fabrication
-Experience with purchase order specification and engineering package preparation
-Experience with American Bureau of Shipping ABS Steel Vessel Rules and Welding standards
-Proficiency with MS Office and 2D CAD systems, such as AutoCAD
-Understanding of 3D modeling
-Solid communication skills both verbal and written
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
-Experience with American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and/or American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards
-Knowledge and experience concerning ship detail design
-Experience with 3D modeling software
-Knowledge and experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices and facilities
-Experience with drydock operations and their certification are a plus
-Proficiency with metric system preferred
-International experience or familiarity with European or Asian Shipbuilding Standards
