Job Description
Day-to-Day:
• Analyse customer specs and design protection & control panels (SLDs, schematics, wiring, logic diagrams, BOMs)
• Develop and execute relay test plans for protection systems
• Create relay setting files based on logic diagrams and protection studies
• Perform secondary injection testing and simulate control schemes (transfer, synchronising, auto-restoration)
• Upload and configure relay settings, including communication setup (IEC 61850)
• Conduct in-house and on-site testing and commissioning
• Provide field support at customer sites (Canada & US travel)
• Take ownership of assigned projects with minimal oversight
• Support team through training, peer reviews, and design assistance

Required Skills & Experience
• University degree or college diploma in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in relay testing and creating setting files for multi-function relays
• Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications
• Experience creating factory/site test procedures and commissioning protection panels
• Deep understanding of protection principles (Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator, Motor)
• Experience with protection & control designs (schematics, logic diagrams, wiring, BOMs)
• Ability to travel up to 25% across Canada and the US
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in team-based, multicultural environments
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with turnkey Protection & Control projects
• Hands-on experience with secondary injection test sets (Omicron, Doble, Megger)
• Familiarity with utility standards and documentation procedures
• Exposure to IEC 61850 communication protocols
• Experience with GE Digital Energy or third-party relay products
• Interdisciplinary experience (metering, communications, substation automation, integration)
