Job Description
Our client, a Top 5 Canadian banking institution, is seeking a Senior Java Developer to support enterprise‑scale Credit Cards Technology platforms. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining secure, high‑performance applications that support card issuance, transaction processing, authorizations, rewards, and customer servicing.
The successful candidate will work in a complex, regulated environment, contributing to cloud modernization initiatives and the delivery of scalable, cloud‑native Java solutions on Microsoft Azure.
Key Responsibilities
Java Application Development
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications using Java 11+ (including Java 17+).
Apply strong object‑oriented programming principles including inheritance, encapsulation, polymorphism, and abstraction.
Utilize Java annotations and the latest Java APIs.
Work extensively with Collections, Concurrency, I/O Streams, Exception Handling, and Generics.
Implement secure coding practices, including authentication and authorization mechanisms.
Enterprise Java & Middleware
Develop, deploy, and maintain Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) components.
Build and consume SOAP and RESTful web services.
Deploy and manage applications on Java application servers such as JBoss (EAP) and Tomcat.
Participate in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and production support activities.
Front‑End & UI Integration
Develop and integrate user interfaces using React / React.js.
Collaborate with front‑end teams to ensure seamless integration with backend services.
Cloud & Azure Development
Design, build, deploy, and monitor applications on Microsoft Azure.
Develop and deploy microservices using Azure Function Apps.
Work with Azure API Management (APIM) as an API Gateway.
Support cloud security and infrastructure design in collaboration with platform teams.
Database & Persistence
Work extensively with Oracle 11g and SQL databases.
Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
Use Hibernate / ORM frameworks for data persistence.
DevOps & Build Tools
Use Git for version control (branching, merging, pull requests).
Build and manage applications using Maven (MVN).
Participate in CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
Collaboration & Leadership
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
Mentor junior and intermediate developers.
Work closely with business analysts, QA, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
Promote best practices, quality standards, and continuous improvement.

Mandatory Skills
Language – Java :
• Proficient in Java programming, including use of annotations and familiarity with the latest Java APIs.
• Deep understanding of OOP concepts: inheritance, encapsulation, polymorphism, abstraction.
• Familiarity with Collections, Concurrency, I/O Streams, Exception Handling, Generics.
• Understanding of secure coding practices, authentication, and authorization.
Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
• Practical experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining EJB components.
Web Services :
• Experience in developing and consuming SOAP and RESTful web services
Front-End Development :
• Experience in developing screens using React, React.js etc
Servers
• Hands-on experience with servers (like Tomcat or JBoss) for deployment and management of Java applications.
Azure
• Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services for building, deploying, and monitoring applications.
• Hands-on knowledge of building & deploying microservices with Azure Function app.
• Knowledge of API Gateway - azure APIM.
Database
• Strong skills in Oracle and SQL databases, including ability to analyze and write SQL queries and stored procedures and hibernate.
Version Control Systems
• Experience with Git (branching, merging, pull requests)
Frameworks
• Experience with Spring framework and Maven (MVN) build tool.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Additional JBoss Server Experience
• Broader experience with JBoss server technologies beyond EAP.
Build Analysis
• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot Ant build scripts.
OpenShift
• Familiarity with OpenShift for container orchestration and application deployment.
Containers & Orchestration
• Experience working with Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration.
Quarkus
• Exposure to Quarkus framework for building cloud-native Java applications.
Azure
• Azure certification (AZ-900, AZ-204 or similar)
• Azure Databricks knowledge
• Azure network security design (NSG, and Firewall integration) knowledge.
