Job Description

Day to Day

Insight Global is looking for a Sr. SQL DBA to join large insurance company team in OKC. This person will be responsible for providing database expertise.

* Provide leadership to the team relating to the management of Database Systems, ensuring the team follows best practices and organizational standards. This includes the managing databases, making strategic data management decisions, ensuring data protection, system recoverability, and data integrity. Promotes teamwork and gives input in setting team goals.

* Provide design, planning, and implementation expertise related DBMS-related technologies. Collaborates with various data stakeholders for strategic planning related to data governance.

* Collaborate and provide expertise to infrastructure and other technical stakeholders to ensure optimal performance and resolution of database environmental issues.



They will need this level of experience:

· Advanced technical proficiency and administrative experience with SQL Server as an enterprise RDBMS, understanding its features, administration, and security

· Advanced knowledge of and experience with setting up and managing backups and restores

· Advanced experience with high availability technologies SQL Server AlwaysOn

· Advanced knowledge of performance tuning, optimizing queries, indexing strategies, and gathering performance metrics

· Well-versed in management of VLDB and large data volume, including indexing techniques and partitioning

· Advanced proficiency with SQL system internals, such as buffer pool, transaction logging, Query Optimizer, system tables, and dynamic management views

· Advanced knowledge of DBMS diagnostics tools and alerting using Query Store, profiler, extended events, and execution plans

· Advanced proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues, diagnosing errors, and resolving performance and data integrity problems

· Advanced expertise diagnosing and fixing technical issues related to database systems, are adept in data recovery, replication, security, and system updates and migration

· Advanced knowledge of and experience with replication technologies, e.g., native SQL replication, change data capture, Qlik Replicate, etc.

· Advanced skills in securing databases, implementing encryption, managing user privileges, and ensuring compliance with data protection standards

· Advanced technical proficiency and administrative expertise with at least one, preferable two or more of the DBMSs utilized including Microsoft SQL Server (Microsoft), Essbase (Hyperion), Oracle, Azure SQL Database (PAAS, IAAS, MI), Amazon RDS and AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

· Advanced understanding of essential concepts like differences between on-prem vs Cloud architectures, database as a service (DBaaS), scalability, and data migration to the cloud environment

· Expected to stay updated and apprised of latest trends and advancement in the field of database administration

Automation, Scripting, and Query Management

· Advanced understanding of scripting languages used to access and manage data, like SQL, Powershell, Python

· Advanced ability to automate routine administration tasks like performance optimizations, backups, and monitoring

· Advanced technical competency in structured query language, writing queries of high complexity, optimizing database performance, designing, and maintaining relational databases

Collaboration and Communication

· Advanced experience collaborating with vendors to ensure their product or services meet requirements and conform to best practices

· Advanced experience coordinating with software development, IT Operations, and business units to ensure smooth integration and usability of the database systems

· Advanced experience coaching on technical issues, techniques, and technologies both inside and outside the database team

· Advanced ability to communicate clearly and effectively with their team, managers, and other stakeholders to align on goals

· Proficient in guiding a database team in executing tasks related to database management, setting goals, delegating tasks, and meeting deadlines

· Proficiency in ability to produce documentation, provide training, coach, and mentor team members, demonstrating a strong work ethic, encouraging teamwork, setting team goals, and upholding a high level of professionalism and commitment to American Fidelity standards and goals

System Understanding and Disaster Recovery

· Proficiency with the operating systems used: Windows (desktop and server), Linux

· Proficiency in ability to collaborate in disaster recovery planning, establishing backup and restore procedures

· Proficiency in ability to understand the hardware and software that the databases run on and can troubleshoot resource allocation issues

· Strong understanding of the disaster recovery and avoidance policies, tools, and procedures to enable recovery of the DBMS in the public and private cloud environments

Data Governance and Security

· Advanced ability to engage strategic decision-making regarding database architecture and data security protocols

· Proficiency in ability to collaborate in the development of data governance policies and standards, working with data compliance and security teams

· Advanced knowledge of database security practices including database encryption techniques, access controls, and network security

· Advanced experience auditing database security measures

· Advanced experience managing patches

· Proficiency in ability to discuss concepts like data models and ERDs, ensuring database integrity and consistency with database and application developers

Development and Project Management

· Proficiency with DevOps concepts like Infrastructure as Code (IaC), continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), cross-functional collaboration, version control (Git), security best practices and how security considerations are integrated into DevOps process

· Advanced experience evaluating Third-party software requirements and recommend appropriate database administration products, tools, and processes

· Strong understanding of organizationally approved project management methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum, Waterfall).

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves:

* 10 years of overall experience

* Experience with SQL Server 17 or higher

* Experience with performance tuning, click replicate, and SQL replicate

* Experience with Security hardening

* Experience with SQL Agent jobs, and SSIS packages

* Experience doing system migration

Nice to Have Skills & Experience
