Assistant Project Manager

Data Center Construction Project

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale data center construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, and design teams, the APM helps manage project documentation, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and project reporting to ensure safe, high-quality, and on-time project delivery.

This role is ideal for an organized and proactive construction professional seeking to develop project management experience within mission-critical construction environments.

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Administration
Support Project Managers in overseeing day-to-day project operations.
Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and document management.
Maintain project records, meeting minutes, logs, and correspondence.
Coordinate communication between owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
Track project milestones and support reporting requirements.
Contract & Document Management
Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
Track drawing revisions and ensure teams are working from current project documents.
Assist with reviewing contracts, scopes of work, and subcontract agreements.
Maintain organized project files in company document management systems.
Support project closeout and turnover documentation efforts.
Scheduling & Procurement Support
Assist with developing and monitoring project schedules.
Track long-lead equipment and material procurement activities.
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials.
Monitor project progress against schedule milestones.
Identify potential schedule impacts and communicate concerns to project leadership.
Budget & Cost Tracking
Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control activities.
Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor pay applications.
Track project expenditures and budget performance.
Support monthly cost reporting and financial updates.
Assist in managing change order pricing and documentation.
Field Operations Support
Conduct jobsite walks to monitor project progress and coordinate with field teams.
Support construction activities by resolving project issues and removing obstacles.
Coordinate with superintendents to track manpower, productivity, and work progress.
Assist with quality control and project inspection processes.
Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with project requirements.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
Participate in owner meetings, subcontractor meetings, and project coordination meetings.
Prepare project updates, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendor partners.
Communicate project risks, challenges, and solutions to project leadership.
Safety & Quality Support
Promote compliance with project safety standards and company policies.
Support quality management initiatives and project inspections.
Assist with tracking deficiency logs and corrective action items.
Help ensure all work meets contractual requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field preferred.
1-5 years of construction project coordination, project engineering, or project management experience.
Knowledge of commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center construction projects preferred.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting data center, industrial, or large commercial construction projects.
Familiarity with project management software such as Procore, Autodesk Build, BIM 360, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
Understanding of project scheduling, procurement, budgeting, and construction operations.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience working directly with subcontractors and field operations teams.
