System Security Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a System Security Engineer for an opportunity supporting a DoD subcontractor. This role will partner heavily with the Airforce client and their Cyber, Engineering, and IT teams. This role supports the government cyber lead and provides cybersecurity support for advanced software-intensive technologies to include agile manufacturing, conditioned-based maintenance, augmented reality/virtual reality, cloud-based infrastructure and services, and robotics. Responsibilities to include:

Engineer, configure, and monitor security measures to protect computer systems, networks, devices, and cloud infrastructure. Create detailed cybersecurity designs and architectures that integrate firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), routers, and switches. Perform regular vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and testing to identify system weaknesses, document technical findings, and provide actionable remediation recommendations to stakeholders and engineering teams. Stay current on emerging cyber threats, software vulnerabilities, and attacker tactics to proactively strengthen defenses. Serve as the primary system security advisor, consultant, and point of contact for Engineers, Program Managers, Information System Owners, and other stakeholders. Analyze security logs, alerts, and network traffic to identify potential malicious activity in real time, and lead or support incident response efforts to investigate, contain, and remediate security incidents and malware infections. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), system security plans, recovery protocols, and other technical documentation. Ensure compliance with industry and government security standards and regulations, including NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and DoD IL5 security controls. Support government Cyber Leads in executing RMF activities and achieving system accreditation, while continuously monitoring system security posture and ensuring adverse events are properly managed and reported. Develop, review, and maintain all documentation required for RMF accreditation, apply accepted methodologies for documenting RMF status within the DoD environment, implement and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and manage projects in accordance with DoD and Air Force RMF policies, including DoDI 8500.01, DoD 8570.01-M, CNSSI 1253, NIST 800-Series Special Publications, including SP 800-53, and Air Force Instruction Series 17 Cyberspace requirements.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
• 5+ years relevant cybersecurity and information technology experience
• 5+ years’ deep understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless security.
• 5+ years’ experience system administration and hybrid, on-premises networks
• 5+ years’ experience with managing user access control, identity and access management (IAM) systems
• 5+ years’ experience with Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS).
• Hands-on experience with security tools (Wireshark, Splunk, etc)
• Current Security+ Certification

• Master of Science Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
• CISM certification (DoD 8570.01-M IAM Level II)
