Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Systems Engineer with expertise in system patching, operating system packaging, and automation. This role focuses on maintaining, patching, and modernizing Linux environments—including legacy OS versions—while building secure, minimal server configurations and supporting ground‑up Linux deployments.
The ideal candidate will blend strong Linux administration experience with automation tooling skills to enhance system reliability, reduce vulnerabilities, and streamline patching processes.
Key Responsibilities
Linux System Patching:
Patch and maintain Linux systems, including older OS versions (e.g., legacy AlmaLinux and RHEL releases).
Extended Support Packaging:
Work with extended support repositories to build and provide patching repos (including syntax 7.9). Support repackaging needs due to discontinued or limited upstream support.
OS Minimization & Hardening:
Repackage repositories to create minimal OS installs that reduce vulnerabilities and unnecessary components.
Ground‑Up Linux Builds:
Perform fresh Linux installations on bare metal to create VM templates and standardized system images.
Automation & Scripting:
Use tools such as Puppet and basic scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) to automate system configuration, patching workflows, and provisioning.
Linux Administration:
Manage Linux systems, troubleshoot OS-level issues, and ensure stability across diverse environments.
Collaboration:
Work within a team of 6–7 engineers as part of a broader vertical team, occasionally partnering with internal software development customers.

Required Skills & Experience
Strong background in Linux systems administration (RHEL, AlmaLinux, or similar).
Hands-on experience with OS patching, repository management, and extended support repositories.
Ability to create minimal OS footprints and reduce unnecessary package exposure.
Experience with bare-metal installs and building VM templates.
Familiarity with automation tools, especially Puppet, plus basic scripting capability.
Understanding of security hardening practices within Linux environments.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience supporting legacy or end-of-life Linux OS versions.
Knowledge of open-source package repositories and custom repo management.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or other automation frameworks.
