Job Description

Our company's Energy Global Practice is seeking to hire a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy division and Nuclear team focusing on Nuclear Power Plants, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Reactors, in our Columbus, OH office. Our Nuclear team has domestic and international experience providing services for large nuclear power plants, nuclear refurbishments, as well as SMRs and advanced reactors. We deliver solutions for these and other challenging projects every day .As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as part of our design team with the ability to work on a full range of projects in engineering, procurement, and construction management related to the operation, maintenance, modification, and licensing of existing utility nuclear generating stations. Some key responsibilities are listed below:



* Performs mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

* Modifies and reviews production drawings for a variety of power projects.

* Designs mechanical systems and selects components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

* Prepare mechanical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.

* Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.

* Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.

* Researches and compiles project-related data as required by the project managers.

* Quality reviews and updates production drawings for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.

* Quality reviews the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of mechanical systems.

* Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power generating facilities.

* Communicates with other disciplines (electrical, structural, civil) engineers for efficient project coordination.

* Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

* All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.

* Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

* Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.

* Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

* Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

* Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

* Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.

* Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

* Traditional power generation, nuclear power generation or similar SMR experience is preferred.

* 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

* Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.
