Job Description

Our client is seeking a Manager to lead the Transmission and Distribution Project Planning responsible for the development and governance of medium to long-term maintenance and investment project plans. The team will be responsible for managing and further developing project requests from the System Forecasting, Modeling, and Analysis team and other T&D stakeholders. The team will be responsible for developing the scope, estimate, key materials, real estate / right of way (ROW) needs, permits, outage requirements, and schedule of assigned projects. These projects will include asset replacements, maintenance, customer growth, Smart Grid, renewable energy integration, and general operations. The Project Planning team will develop the scope, schedule, and Class 3 estimates for over $300M in CapEx projects annually. The team will identify real estate, permitting, outage requirements, long-lead-time procurements and engage key stakeholders. The Project Planning Team will also work with Performance & Reliability and other stakeholders to develop the business case and risks mitigated by the investment in preparation for budget approval by the business.



* Lead a process-oriented organization of planning engineers focused on delivering value to the US T&D businesses through achieving greater customer and business outcomes per dollar invested.

* Lead the strategy and continued growth of the Performance & Asset Management organization through mentoring and developing engineers.

* Develop department budgets, safety programs, training for new hires, long-range staffing plans, and leadership/skill development opportunities for staff. Responsible for development of tactical plans ensuring all departmental goals are defined, communicated, and executed.

* Perform regular performance assessments of direct reports.

* Develop strategy to foster and maintain cooperative relationships with stakeholders in T&D, Global businesses, regulators, and other parties interested in economic regulatory matters affecting US T&D.

* Lead the preparation of detailed scopes, estimates, and schedules for proposed projects to ensure all facets of work are accounted for and that the project is feasible for construction.

* Direct the implementation of engineering, construction, commissioning, and maintenance standards to achieve efficient implementation of transmission and distribution infrastructure and maintenance plans consistent with corporate, safety, compliance, and system performance objectives.

* Leverage strategic relationships with outside engineering firms, consultants, vendors, and equipment manufacturers.

* Evaluate strategic alternatives and investment opportunities and prepare analysis and materials to support recommendations.

* Champion the Integrated Planning Process, Global CapEx process and the Copperleaf Portfolio Investment Planning tool.

Required Skills & Experience

* Education -- Four-year college degree -- Engineering or related field is preferred.

* Experience --10 years in capital project and/or portfolio management with leadership experience in managing teams. Experience in continuous improvement, Six Sigma, and Lean Engineering.

* Extensive computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 tools required.

* Experience in utility rate structure and design, regulated T&D utility business, assets, and systems.

* Experience building investment financial models and performing analysis (cost of capital, IRR, NPV).

* Experience developing portfolio/project budgets.

* Knowledge of FERC, Indiana IURC, Ohio PUCO regulations and litigation procedures.

* Demonstrated ability to achieve results and operate with minimal supervision.

* Superior communication and presentation skills, both oral and written. Track record of making successful presentations to upper management and large stakeholder groups.

* Track record of rolling out new initiatives and training large diverse groups.

* Demonstrated success working to develop consensus from diverse opinions in a highly fluid and sometimes ambiguous multi-cultural environment.

* Proven leadership abilities to drive process change initiatives across the organization.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

* Certifications including: Professional Engineering License (P.E.) and/or a Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) are a plus.

* Experience with SAP IM/PS and Copperleaf Portfolio are preferred.

* Experience with Smart Grid, DER integration, and other trends changing the industry are a plus
