Azure Cloud Operations Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on Azure Operations Engineer to support and maintain a growing Azure cloud environment. This is an operationally focused role responsible for ensuring platform stability, monitoring cloud infrastructure, managing costs, automating routine processes, and supporting governance and disaster recovery initiatives.
The engineering team is actively building cloud patterns and platforms, and this role will focus on operating, monitoring, and optimizing those environments once deployed. The ideal candidate has strong Azure operations experience, understands Infrastructure as Code, can troubleshoot production environments, and is comfortable leveraging scripting and AI-assisted automation to streamline operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Azure Operations & Monitoring
• Monitor the health, performance, and availability of Azure cloud services and applications.
• Proactively respond to alerts, incidents, and operational issues using monitoring and observability tools.
• Analyze production issues and assist with root cause investigations and resolution efforts.
• Monitor and support Azure-based middleware services including PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka.
• Develop and maintain operational dashboards and reporting within Azure monitoring platforms.
• Support ongoing introduction and adoption of observability tools such as Datadog.
Cost Management & Governance
• Monitor Azure cloud consumption and spending trends across subscriptions.
• Identify cost anomalies and recommend optimization opportunities.
• Support FinOps initiatives by tracking cloud utilization and governance compliance.
• Ensure adherence to organizational tagging, security, and resource governance standards.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
• Execute, review, and maintain Terraform deployments supporting Azure infrastructure.
• Understand and troubleshoot existing Terraform modules and configurations.
• Build and maintain operational automation using Bash and Python scripting.
• Automate repetitive operational processes, provisioning activities, and governance tasks.
• Develop scripts supporting Azure governance functions such as access reviews and entitlement management.
Azure Identity & Security
• Support Azure Entra ID administration and identity governance initiatives.
• Assist with RBAC implementation following least-privilege principles.
• Manage secrets and credential operations through Azure Key Vault and Managed Identities.
• Ensure cloud resources comply with established security standards and policies.
Disaster Recovery & Resiliency
• Create, document, and maintain disaster recovery runbooks for critical cloud services.
• Participate in recovery testing and validation exercises.
• Continuously improve recovery procedures and operational documentation.
• Support business continuity initiatives and incident response activities.

5+ years of experience supporting and operating Azure cloud environments.
Strong understanding of Azure core services including:
o Virtual Networks
o Virtual Machines
o Storage Accounts
o Resource Groups
o Networking and Connectivity
o Azure Governance
Hands-on experience using Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and maintenance.
Strong scripting skills using Python and Bash
Experience with Azure monitoring and observability tools including:
o Azure Monitor
o Log Analytics (KQL)
o Application Insights
o Azure Cost Management
o Grafana
o Prometheus
Understanding of RBAC, Key Vault, Managed Identities, and cloud governance controls.

Experience with Azure Entra ID (Azure Active Directory).
Azure certifications such as:
o AZ-104 Azure Administrator
o AZ-400 DevOps Engineer
Exposure to Datadog monitoring and observability.
Familiarity with FinOps and cloud cost optimization practices.
Knowledge of AI-assisted scripting and automation tooling.
