Job Description

Applied AI is most valuable when it solves real problems effectively. First Citizens applies data science, ML, advanced analytics, and GenAI selectively—based on fit—and rigorously tests solutions for accuracy, practicality, and responsibility.
The Applied AI Analyst (P4) is a hands-on contributor within the FCI Applied AI team, supporting data prep, solution development, testing, and documentation under guidance from senior P5 practitioners and the India delivery lead. The role focuses on executing defined use cases from experimentation through implementation readiness.
This role emphasizes craft development. Expectations include consistent, high-quality execution and increasing independence, with more complex decisions initially owned by senior team members but expanding over time.

Hands-On Development and Technical Execution
• Build, configure, test, and document solution components across data science, ML, analytics, and GenAI use cases
• Prepare/analyze data and develop features, prototypes, prompts, retrieval components, scripts, and documentation
• Implement solution designs and suggest improvements to accuracy, efficiency, and reuse
• Troubleshoot issues, document assumptions, and escalate blockers
Testing, Evaluation, and Documentation
• Execute evaluation plans including performance testing, validation, and reproducibility checks
• Support GenAI evaluation (datasets, relevance, grounding, safety, quality) under guidance
• Maintain complete technical artifacts and documentation for governance and review
• Apply strong engineering practices (version control, repeatable testing, secure data handling)
Platform, Controls, and Reusable Capability
• Use approved platforms and adopt reusable patterns as capabilities mature
• Follow governance, security, and Responsible AI requirements
• Contribute reusable code, templates, and documentation
• Participate in training, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
Collaboration and Professional Growth
• Communicate status, results, blockers, and recommendations clearly
• Collaborate with U.S. teams via structured handoffs and documented outputs
• Build technical independence and sound judgment in AI application
• Demonstrate curiosity, quality focus, and openness to feedback

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of experience in data/IT/financial services/risk with hands-on AI or analytics delivery
• Strong Python & SQL
• End-to-end ML experience (build → deploy)
• Strong data science foundation
• Experience applying LLMs (e.g., Claude, Cortex)
• Snowflake preferred; AWS environment
• Experience building/deploying ML solutions (e.g., Streamlit)
• Full lifecycle experience: data → modeling → deployment

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Hands-on academic or professional experience building and testing AI/ML/GenAI solutions
• Proficiency in Python/SQL and familiarity with ML/GenAI tools and version control
• Understanding of data prep, evaluation, testing, documentation, and monitoring
• Interest in both traditional ML and GenAI, with practical method selection
• Strong attention to detail, structured problem solving, and collaboration skills
• Clear written communication of technical work, outcomes, and blockers
