Job Description

This role is focused on ensuring the integrity and compliance of Safety Control Systems (SCS), including Safety PLC logic and associated electrical schematics. The engineer will partner closely with a third-party validation vendor, providing technical oversight and ensuring all work meets OSHA, ISO 13849, and ANSI B11 standards.
Key responsibilities include auditing existing safety systems, identifying non-conformities, and implementing corrective actions to bring systems up to required safety performance levels. This individual will take ownership of reviewing and reworking Safety PLC programming and safety circuitry, while also managing third-party consultants to ensure adherence to project milestones and technical expectations.
Additional responsibilities:
• Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance with ISO 13849 and ANSI B11 standards
• Review electrical schematics and Safety PLC logic for compliance and accuracy
• Identify, document, and resolve system non-conformities
• Design and validate countermeasures to achieve required control categories and performance levels
• Develop and manage project plans, schedules, milestones, and KPIs
• Oversee third-party validation vendors from a technical standpoint
• Perform spot audits to ensure continued compliance
• Lead cross-functional coordination to drive issue resolution
• Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and leadership
• Support field troubleshooting and implementation as needed
• Mentor and support internal teams on functional safety best practices

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering within industrial or automation environments
• Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent)
• Experience with one or more Safety PLC platforms:
○ Allen-Bradley GuardLogix
○ Omron Sysmac (Safety)
○ Keyence GC Configurator
○ Toyopuc PCWin Safe
○ Siemens TIA Portal / Step 7 (Safety)
Deep knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and related safety standards

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with risk assessment tools
• Knowledge of FMEA/FMEDA methodologies
Hands-on troubleshooting experience within industrial environments
