Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Lead Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer for a large enterprise client undergoing significant mainframe modernization and operational transformation. This individual will serve as a hands-on infrastructure expert, owning incident response, troubleshooting complex production issues, and acting as a key escalation point across the mainframe environment. The ideal candidate brings strong system-level experience, thrives in high-pressure outage situations, and is confident driving calls, challenging vendors, and restoring service quickly. This role offers high visibility, real ownership, and the opportunity to modernize legacy systems while reducing reliance on outsourced operations.
Day to Day
• Lead and participate in P1/P2 incident response calls
• Troubleshoot mainframe infrastructure issues end-to-end
• Serve as internal mainframe SME and escalation point
• Interface daily with:
○ Outsourced vendors
○ Internal application and engineering teams
• Validate vendor work and push for timely resolution
• Support automation and modernization initiatives
Bridge communication between infrastructure, development, and leadership teams
Pay ranges from $110-$140k.

Required Skills & Experience
• 8+ years of experience in mainframe infrastructure/ engineering, 3-5 years in a lead role
• Broad exposure across the full mainframe stack. Hands-on experience with:
○ z/OS, CICS, DB2, MQ, RACF
• Strong communication and experience interfacing with and holding vendors accountable (Kyndryl/IBM-type environments)
• Demonstrated experience with mainframe modernization, integration, and migration projects.
Bachelors degree in computer science and/or relevant field
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Ansible automation (especially mainframe collections)
• Python or other automation tooling experience
• AIOps / telemetry / monitoring experience
• Mainframe modernization exposure:
○ Z Linux
○ OpenShift
○ IBM Cloud Pak for Integration (CP4I)
Experience reducing vendor dependency / insourcing operations
