Job Description
In this role, you will get an opportunity to work with new hardware as part of an established team as we evolve a development environment to integrate new testing methodologies. Your primary areas of responsibility will include receiving hardware, checking it against established receiving procedures, upgrading firmware in an engineering facility, and performing asset management data entries within the inventory system. Additionally, you are responsible for maintaining and administering hardware, including configuration changes and upgrading firmware. Those tasks will include responding to engineering requests via ticket systems, troubleshooting technical issues, assisting with network triaging, organizing and facilitating capacity planning activities of hardware deliveries, and rack configurations with junior team members and stakeholders. As a Lab Engineer, experience with monitoring power and cooling within the lab space and should ideally have good system administration skills. This role is ideal for anyone interested in Data Center operations working with Linux or open source, who has previously performed operating system installs, a CPU or memory upgrade, and flashed their own firmware.
- Receive, check in, and rack and stack servers
- Troubleshoot technical issues
- Monitor power and cooling; capacity planning of hardware in Labs
- Respond to engineering requests through the ticketing system
- Maintain and administer hardware, including configuration changes and firmware upgrades
- Perform other administrative work related to labs
- Decommission and eWaste Hardware
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with Lab and DC operations
- Prior experience in computer operations, system administration, or a closely related area.
- Knowledge of or experience with Linux or UNIX
- Motivated to advance in the information technology profession, with excellent troubleshooting skills
- Good work ethic and an ability to learn and quickly grasp technical concepts (there will, however, be people on hand for guidance)
- Good interpersonal communication skills and capable of explaining simple procedures both verbally and in writing
- Excellent verbal and written customer service skills
- Detail-oriented and thorough when following procedures, as well as able to follow verbal and written instructions
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Degree or certificate in computer science or a technology-related field is preferred
