Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer for a top energy technology client. This candidate will play a key leadership role in advancing next-generation electrical and grid technologies that support electrification, renewables, and power generation. The ideal candidate will bring deep power systems expertise, hands-on lab and field implementation experience, and a strong background leading complex R&D programs from early concept through product introduction. This role is ideal for a highly strategic and technical engineer who can partner with executive stakeholders, product teams, research groups, universities, and external partners to shape technology roadmaps and drive breakthrough innovation in the energy transition space.
Day-to-Day:
• Lead and contribute to research and development programs across electrification, renewables, and power generation technologies
• Partner with engineering, product, and service leaders to identify electrical and grid technology needs
• Identify disruptive technology trends with strong potential business impact
• Develop electrical systems technology roadmaps and strategic plans
• Build a portfolio of research programs aligned to electrification strategy
• Lead early-stage technology development from concept through product introduction
• Coordinate disruptive technology initiatives across business units
• Conduct and lead lab demonstrations of new technologies for internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate with universities, strategic technology partners, business partners, and external organizations
• Provide technical leadership on electrical and grid technologies, market trends, and competitive positioning
• Contribute to long-term product and technology roadmaps
• Support GE Vernova-wide strategy around electrification, renewables, power, safety, quality, and productivity
• Work with business stakeholders to define priorities, strategies, and execution plans

Required Skills & Experience

• Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field with 10+ years of experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field with 14+ years of experience
• 8+ years of experience deploying electrical systems into business and/or production environments
• Experience leading technical teams and delivering large-scale projects
• Deep expertise in electrical power systems, including:
o Power system operation, control, and protection
o Dispatch, optimization, ancillary services, and real-time market operations
o Forecasting, planning, dynamics, transients, faults, arc flash, and harmonics
o Balance of plant, generators, and excitation systems
• Hands-on lab-scale development, testing, and validation experience with power system hardware such as controllers and relays
• Experience with simulation and development tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, DigSilent, Python, C++, and Visual Studio
• Hardware-in-the-loop testing experience
• Demonstrated ability to scale lab-developed technologies to field implementation
• Experience leading and contributing to large R&D programs
• Experience writing successful R&D proposals
• Proven ability to take an idea from concept through product introduction

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with experience leading multidisciplinary programs
• Strong influence, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• Industrial electrical systems experience for large-scale or complex applications
• Hands-on experience with modeling, simulation, coding, and hardware development
• Strong understanding of power system fundamentals and real-world applications
• Ability to understand and connect multiple technology domains
• Strong technical, strategic, and program management problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with GE Vernova businesses or cross-business collaboration
• Exposure to related fields such as power electronics, electrical machines, prime movers, AI/machine learning, and cybersecurity
• Ability to manage risk and ambiguity in a dynamic environment
• Strong peer-reviewed publication and conference presentation record
