Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Principal Engineer, Electrical – Power Electronics for a top energy technology client. This candidate will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for shaping the future of grid-scale power electronics, electrification, renewables, and power generation technologies. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in high-voltage and medium-voltage power electronics, advanced controls, converters, simulation tools, hardware development, and field implementation. This role is highly strategic and hands-on, partnering with executive stakeholders, engineering leaders, universities, government agencies, and external technology partners to define roadmaps, lead breakthrough R&D programs, and drive disruptive technologies from early-stage concept through product introduction.
Day-to-Day:
• Partner with engineering, product, and service leaders to identify electrical and grid technology needs
• Work with GE Vernova Advanced Research teams to identify disruptive technology trends
• Develop technology and product roadmaps for electrical and grid technologies
• Shape strategic collaborations with universities, government agencies, technology partners, and business partners
• Build and manage a robust portfolio of research programs supporting electrification strategy
• Shape and lead early-stage technology development with strong disruption potential
• Mature new technologies from concept through successful product introduction
• Coordinate disruptive technology initiatives across GE Vernova businesses
• Ensure technology efforts are incorporated into long-term, multi-generational product roadmaps
• Own lab demonstrations of new technologies for internal and external customers
• Drive multi-year strategic planning across electrification, renewables, and power businesses
• Support GE Vernova-wide strategy around safety, quality, productivity, electrification, renewables, and power
• Provide technical leadership on disruptive technologies, market trends, and competitive positioning
• Enable team execution across complex research, development, and commercialization efforts

Required Skills & Experience
• Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field with 15+ years of experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field with 18+ years of experience
• 10+ years of experience deploying electrical systems into business and/or production environments
• 10+ years of experience leading technical teams or large-scale projects
• Deep domain expertise in electrical systems and grid-scale power electronics, including:
o Power electronics hardware
o Simulation and controls
o Protection systems
o AC/DC power converters
o High-voltage and medium-voltage architectures
o Circuit design and semiconductors
o Power quality and power conditioning
o Sensing and packaging techniques
o Faults, arc flash, harmonics, and grid code compliance
• Lab-scale development, testing, and validation experience with power electronics hardware
• Experience with grid-scale high-voltage and/or medium-voltage converters
• Experience with controllers, including DSP and/or FPGA
• Experience with filters, relays, and hardware-in-the-loop testing
• Experience with system simulation tools such as PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, and PSCAD
• Demonstrated ability to scale technologies from lab development to field implementation
• Experience leading large research programs
• Experience writing successful R&D proposals
• Proven ability to take an idea from concept through product introduction

• Experience leading multidisciplinary programs
• Strong influence, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• Industrial electrical systems experience with hands-on modeling, simulation, coding, and hardware development
• Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals and real-world applications
• Ability to connect power electronics with adjacent technology domains
• Strong technical, strategic, and program management problem-solving capabilities
• Familiarity with multiple GE Vernova businesses or cross-business collaboration
• Awareness of related technologies such as:
o Power systems applications
o Electrical machines and prime movers
o Thermal science
o AI/machine learning
• Ability to manage ambiguity, risk, and shifting priorities
• Strong decision-making skills when problems or solutions are not well defined
• Strong record of peer-reviewed journal publications and conference presentations
