Crane Operator

Crane Operator Responsibilities
• Operate the crane to support all required lifts into and around the bottom floor pit
area.
• Move and stage each lift according to the approved lift plan and direction from the
designated signal person.
• Verify crane setup, level condition, load chart limits, radius, swing path, and ground
conditions before lifting.
• Maintain communication with the rigger and signal person throughout each lift.
• Keep loads controlled and avoid sudden movements, side loading, or lifting over
personnel.
• Stop the lift immediately if communication is lost, the load becomes unstable, or
any unsafe condition is identified.

Coordination and Communication
• Hold a pre-task meeting before unloading, staging, or lifting begins.
• Review load weights, pick points, travel paths, swing radius, landing areas, and
exclusion zones.
• Confirm the designated signal person before crane operations begin.
• Use radios, hand signals, or direct verbal communication appropriate for site
conditions.
• Maintain one clear point of direction for crane signaling unless an emergency stop is
required.
• Pause work immediately if communication is unclear or site conditions change.
Safety Expectations
• All operators and riggers must be qualified for their assigned tasks.
• Inspect equipment, forks, rigging gear, hooks, latches, and safety devices before
use.
• Keep personnel clear of suspended loads and maintain established exclusion
zones.
• Verify ground conditions and equipment stability before operating or lifting.
• Do not exceed rated capacities for the telehandler, crane, rigging gear, or
attachments.
• Follow site safety rules, required personal protective equipment requirements, and
the approved lift plan.
• Any worker has stop-work authority if an unsafe condition is observed.
